COLLEGE AND CAREER WEEK: MARCH 10-14

College Fair


Happy College and Career Week! To kick off the events this week, RBHS hosted a College Fair in the Atrium, with schools such as DePaul University, Loyola University, University of Illinois at Chicago, North Central College, Elmhurst University, Valparaiso University, and more! Thank you to all the admissions reps who provided valuable information about their schools and programs. We hope this event gave students a chance to explore a variety of postsecondary opportunities and connect with representatives from different colleges and universities!

Career Fair


On Thursday, RBHS hosted a Trades and Career Fair, where industry professionals connected with students to showcase career opportunities and discuss their fields. Representatives from organizations such as Sheet Metal Workers 73, Nicholas & Associates, Plumbers JAC Local 130, Riverside Police and Fire Department, Pipe Fitters’ Local Union 597, the United States Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps, Operating Engineers Local 150, UPS, Paul Mitchell the School Chicago, and many more were in attendance. Bulldogs, we hope you gained valuable insights into the possibilities for your future!

Compass Health Center Presentation


Compass Health Center presented to juniors and seniors today about college preparedness, self-care/coping skills, and resources for mental health support. This presentation was a great way to wrap up College and Career Week!

ISAC Financial Aid Representative


The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) was available all lunch periods to help seniors with their financial aid questions. ISAC provides free help to complete the FAFSA or Alternative Application for Illinois families. Visit their website for more information!

"Applying Not Crying" Weekly Senior Group


Attention Seniors! Student Services is hosting a weekly senior group focused on college life beyond academics. Join discussions on self-care, social life, and the transition to college. DVR Trades Boot Camp


Interested in a career in the trades? The DVR Summer Trades Boot Camp is hands-on program for rising seniors to explore trade careers, gain real-world experience, and prepare for future apprenticeships and careers. This paid opportunity includes hands-on training, site visits, networking, and career prep.

Chicago Archaeopteryx Field Museum Presentation


Alexander Clark, one of the lead scientists from the Field Museum and the University of Chicago, visited RB to discuss the new Chicago Archaeopteryx at the Field Museum. This rare fossil, one of only 13 in the world, reveals the evolutionary link between dinosaurs and birds and is considered one of the most important fossil discoveries of all time.

Model UN Awards


On March 1, 20 RB delegates attended the Lyons Township High School annual Model UN conference. Senior Alec Oltrogge received an Outstanding Delegate award for his position of Qiu Ersao in the Red Turban Revolt committee and sophomore Violet Furey earned an Honorable Mention for representing China in the UN Environmental Programme committee. Congratulations to all delegates for their commendable work at this final conference of the year!

BOE Student Advisors Application Now Open


ATTENTION JUNIORS!

Apply to be a Student Advisor to the Board of Education for the 2025-26 school year! A student representative will serve as an advisor and non-voting member to the Board of Education. The Student Advisor gives perspective to both the Board of Education and the student body. Students should be currently enrolled juniors (Class of 2026) and in good academic standing.


The deadline to apply is Friday, April 11, 2025. More information about the position can be found here.

Yearbook Distribution: May 15


Yearbook distribution is planned for Thursday, May 15th, in the Field House starting at the beginning of the 7th period until 3:30pm. If you ordered a yearbook, please come pick it up after school on May 15th! For FAQs and additional information, please click here.

Criminal Justice Dual Enrollment at Triton College


Welcome back to another episode of Innovate 208! In this episode, we explore the Dual Enrollment Criminal Justice Program at Triton College. This program gives students hands-on experience in law enforcement and legal procedures, providing them with a head start on a potential career in criminal justice. Students in this program spend half their day at Triton and the other half at RB, earning high school and college credit simultaneously.

Riverside Brookfield High School is proud to partner with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) to provide our families with access to informative sessions and valuable resources that support their children’s growth and development. These FREE presentations feature world-renowned authors, clinicians, and speakers and are open to all families.

 

The majority of the programs are offered virtually with no registration required. We encourage community members to attend the following GPS webinars over the next month. Links and details for each event are available on the GPS website.
