Meet Shumla's

Many Thanks to
Emil Zuberbueler
It's farewell but not goodbye to our Board President of six years, Emil Zuberbueler.
It is with deep gratitude that we honor Emil Zuberbueler for his loyal tenure as Chair of the Shumla Board of Directors for six years. He is taking a break from the Board, but we know we will stay in close touch. His Board service is through, but he is a member of the Shumla family forever.
Emil grew up in Comstock, TX with his ranching parents, five brothers and one sister. He was named after his grandfather who first came to ranch in the Lower Pecos in the late 1800's. He was raised working livestock and picnicking under the incredible murals that now astonish researchers all across the world. He didn't really fully understand their significance until much later when he met the folks at Shumla.
Emil joined the Shumla Board of Directors in 2007 and immediately took over the role of Board Secretary. He was elected to the Chairmanship in January of 2013 and saw Shumla through some of the biggest years of growth in our history.
Emil Zuberbueler, Jessica Lee, Carolyn Boyd and Lacy Finley at the official launch of the Shumla Endowed Research Professorship. A position endowed by the fundraising efforts of Emil and the Board of Directors.
Emil was a champion for Shumla and a strong foundation for Carolyn, as Executive Director and into her transition to Shumla Endowed Research Professor at Texas State. He was a great friend, advisor and facilitator for Jessica when she took over the Executive Directorship. He will continue to consult with the Board and staff as he moves on to new challenges and adventures.

Emil with the late Jo Ann Harris, who served as Vice President of the Board with him. They were a wonderful team!
