Hello,

Welcome to another edition of the Peabody PROMISE newsletter. We're excited to share some new activities and resources with you.

Speaking of sharing, there are shareable QR codes and links at the bottom of this newsletter.
Help us spread the word so more Peabody families, students and residents can benefit from the mental wellness and bullying prevention resources available to them.

"You Are Not Alone"

This is the message Higgins Middle School 7th grader Ester Canario Soto hopes her classmates will carry with them.
Ester’s heartfelt message was part of her winning design for the
Student Resource and Support Center logo contest. Ester was awarded a $100 gift card donated by The Henry R. Breckenridge Charitable Foundation, while six runners-up each received a $50 gift card courtesy of the City of Peabody and Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

A
huge shout-out to Higgins teacher, Mr. Lamkin who was instrumental in coordinating the contest and encouraging students to think compassionately through art! All Higgins students were invited to participate. Peabody PROMISE received over 100 submissions.

Congratulations and thank you to Ester and all of the Higgins students who participated!

Daily Acts of Kindness

During the month of February, all Peabody Public Schools are adopting a Kindness Calendar featuring age-appropriate activities to spread positivity throughout our community.

Small gestures make a big difference—whether it’s holding a door open, cheering up a peer, thanking a teacher, or lending a hand to a family member.

Being kind only takes a minute, but the impact can last a lifetime. View the calendars

Recycled Percussion: Chaos & Kindness

On February 11th, a special assembly will be held for all 9th & 10th grade students during periods 6 & 7. The group Recycled Percussion will be visiting PVMHS to perform for our students, while promoting the important messages of kindness, positivity, and mental health awareness. Thank you to Peabody Education Foundation (PEF) for their funding support.

“Be the Reason Someone Belongs”

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Child Youth Violence Prevention Unit has launched “Be the Reason Someone Belongs,” a campaign to prevent bullying and promote inclusion and belonging among middle school youth. This effort is also designed to help create welcoming environments in schools and communities.

A
major focus for Peabody public schools this year has been to develop a strong sense of belonging for our students. One way they are doing that is to have every student in the district identify at least one trusted adult. The district has also ordered supplies from the state's campaign and plans to incorporate "Be the Reason Someone Belongs" in future activities.

Click here for more information and resources. Visit mass.gov/StopBullying to learn about the different types of bullying and what can be done to prevent bullying.

Sharing is Caring
Help us inform the community of the resources available to them.
