EPF members in the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio tabled for justice on Sunday, September 18 at Trinity Cathedral. Chapter members on hand were: Catherine Smythe-Zajc, Janet Morrison, Melanie Merkle Atha, the Rev. Deacon Barbara Maxwell, and Fran Csoma.

EPF welcomes our newest chapter --  The Episcopal Diocese of Newark! Are you in northern New Jersey and looking for connection with like-minded Gospel advocates, striving for justice and peace? Let chapter convener the Rev. Diane Riley know. May God bless our new shared ministry!

On Sunday October 9, at 4pm ET, join Peter Beinart in a  discussion about the documentary BOYCOTT. This is a time-limited viewing opportunity. Register at tinyurl.com/VFHL-October2022, view the film for free at your convenience for 4 days, then join the Zoom on Sunday.

When a news publisher in Arkansas, an attorney in Arizona, and a speech therapist in Texas are told they must choose between their jobs and their political beliefs, they launch legal battles that expose an attack on freedom of speech across 33 states in America. BOYCOTT is a bracing look at the far-reaching implications of anti-boycott legislation designed to penalize companies and individuals that choose to boycott Israel due to its human rights record.

Panelists & Moderator:

Peter Beinart -- Editor-at-Large, Jewish Currents; MSNBC Contributor; Professor of Journalism; Political Science, Newmark School of Journalism, CUNY; Fellow, Foundation for Middle East Peace; Publisher, The Beinart Newsletter

Jen Marlowe: author, filmmaker, playwright, journalist, and human rights activist

Bahia Amawi: speech pathologist, free-speech plaintiff vs. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Pflugerville ISD

Mnar Adley (moderator): Editor-in-Chief, MintPress News

Violence is often the poison fruit of a long history of the microaggressions we witness happening around us every week. What might we do to intervene in those incidents of harassment and disrespect to make the world less violent? This presentation shows us ways to make a real difference.

Right to Be is a global leader in the movement to end harassment. We believe that we all deserve to be who we are, wherever we are. Right to Be works in communities to understand the problem, ignite public conversations, and develop innovative strategies that result in safe and welcoming environments for all. Right to Be (formerly Hollaback!) has trained over 100,000 people how to intervene when they witness harassment. To learn more, please visit https://righttobe.org/

Jorge Arteaga is deputy director of Right to Be. His passion for history, places, and people joined by his ability to plan and execute have allowed him to bring his operational skills to serve in the social justice movement. His background in Operations and in serving marginalized communities has informed his holistic approach to creating processes and systems that consider every aspect of a person’s experience. Jorge has worked on racial justice, LGBTQ+, and arts education initiatives along the East Coast.

Jorge hopes to continue contributing to the social justice movement by ensuring all the phenomenal people leading the movement have the tools and resources required to enact real-world changes. Jorge earned his B.A. in American Studies from SUNY College at Old Westbury, and his M.A. in American Studies at The City College of New York. He is currently completing his M.S in Project Management and Operations at Southern New Hampshire University.

Our Ongoing Prayer for Peace in Ukraine

Holy God, open our eyes to a fresh vision of a peaceful world, along with the will to seek alternatives to revenge and violence. Awaken in us compassion for the victims of war: soldiers of all nations, grieving families, civilians, the wounded creation. Open wide the eyes of world leaders, especially in our own country, to see a path toward peace between Ukraine and Russia, and in all conflicts that tear apart the one human family. Grant us eyes wide open to peace. Amen.

The Rev. Bill Exner, former EPF Vice Chair for Public Witness

Peacebuilder Book Club continues on Saturday, October 15 at 3:00 pm Eastern time!

"How can we become people of nonviolence and help the world become more nonviolent? What does it mean to be a person of active nonviolence? How can we help build a global grassroots movement of nonviolence to disarm the world, relieve unjust human suffering, make a more just society and protect creation and all creatures? What is a nonviolent life?"

Former Jesuit Father John Dear asks these questions—and more—in his book The Nonviolent Life. Join Fr. Cody Maynus (Diocese of South Dakota) and other EPF friends for a conversation about the height, depth, and breadth of non-violent living.
