SPLOST Dollars at Work

Spyglass island- As Project 34 of the 2017 SPLOST, Lake Peachtree Island was only accessible by water. The project included removing undergrowth, leaving large trees for shade, a walking trail around the island, and the construction of a pedestrian bridge. This project was completed in 2018.

Several bridge options and locations for a multi-use crossing to the island were considered and evaluated for feasibility, cost-effectiveness, permit requirements, and project objectives. The passive park now renamed Spyglass Island has an incredible viewing area along the shoreline for our residents to enjoy the lake and its serenity.

Projects for the 2022 SPOST are currently being discussed.

IPhone Safety Tip:

When a thief steals an iPhone, one of the first things they do is turn on airplane mode so the phone can’t be tracked. To keep this from happening, follow these steps now before your phone is stolen.

  1. First, go to settings and scroll down to “Face ID and Passcode.”
  2. Next, scroll down to “ALLOW ACCESS WHEN LOCKED.” Make sure that “Control Center” and “USB Accessories” are toggled off.
  3. Next, go back one level and click on “Privacy.”
  4. Go to “Location Services” and make sure that it is toggled on.
  5. Go back two levels and click on your Apple ID.
  6. Inside your Apple ID, click on “Find My” and then “Find My iPhone.” Make sure that “Find my iPhone”, “Find My network”, and “Send Last Location” are all toggled on.

Once these steps have been completed, the Control Center and USB Accessories will not be accessible without either the passcode or Face ID. You will also be able to track your iPhone once the power has been turned off.

Peachtree City’s Annual Senior Homestead Exemption Registration is Underway

Forms for qualifying senior citizens to register for the 2022 Peachtree City Senior Homestead Exemption will be available at City Hall beginning Monday, January 3. Peachtree City residents must register each year for the exemption.

Qualifying PTC homeowners must be age 65 by January 1 of 2022 and must already have applied for the standard Homestead Exemption through the Fayette County Tax Commissioners Office. The household income, which must be less than $30,000, will be calculated on the Federal Adjusted Gross Income of the applicant and spouse. The exemption is a flat rate of $5,000 per home. Qualifying seniors should bring proof of age and income (a copy of their 2021 tax returns) to City Hall, 151 Willowbend Road, in Peachtree City to file for the exemption.

The deadline to file for 2022 is 5:00 PM on Friday, February 26. Because people may not have their taxes ready at that time, the City will continue to accept proof of income until Friday, April 08, 2021 (but only from those who filed their form by February 26). Residents with questions may contact City Hall at 770-487-7657 or email csr@peachtree-city.org
