The Peachtree City Community Emergency Response Team graduates its 31st CERT Class
(Peachtree City, Georgia) –During the May 5, 2022, City Council meeting, the thirteen (13) students of the Peachtree City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Class #31 will be presented with their graduation certificates for their completion of an eleven-week training course. The Mayor and Council invite CERT team members, alumni, and all who wish to help congratulate the graduating class, to attend on May 5, 2022, at 6:30 pm at City Hall located at 151 Willowbend Rd, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
CERT is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program designed to train and prepare individuals to help themselves, their family, and their neighbors in the event of a disaster. CERT members may also provide critical support to first responders in emergencies by providing immediate assistance to victims, supporting search and rescue activities, managing utilities and small fires, and organizing spontaneous volunteers. This "all-hazards" training prepares members of the community, neighborhoods, and workplaces to take a more active role in emergency planning for their area and to prepare themselves and others for disasters and emergencies.
Graduates of the CERT program receive training in a variety of topics and skills, including basic medical treatment, light search and rescue, active threat awareness, fire and utilities safety, and emergency preparedness. Students have an opportunity to practice learned skills during a mock disaster exercise.
The Fall 2022 CERT course begins September 8, 2022, and ends November 17, 2022. The class is held at the Peachtree City Police Department weekly on Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Prospective students must be at least 18 years of age and legal residents of Georgia. Class is free of charge but will be limited to the first 24 applicants accepted.
Anyone interested in participating in future CERT training should visit www.cert-ptc.com for more information and obtain an application, or contact Sgt. Kevin Brown at (770) 487-8866 or kbrown@peachtree-city.org.
