Rep. Balint on the issues

"We have to shift our thinking a little bit about what Vermont communities can look like, and maybe we have a little bit more denser housing," said the state's sole Congressional representative Becca Balint. Speaking to students at VTSU in Castleton, she said a "wave" of people are going to move here due to the "climate emergency." The lack of housing, she said, is the "biggest impediment" to the state's economic growth.

Stern warning

"If you try drugs, you don't know what you're taking," due to "tons of adulterants." That was the frightening message from Adam Namm of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission. Ambassador Namm said traffickers now use AI to intensify their products' potency. "That may eventually lessen the use of illicit drugs, because people may be scared off, not knowing what they're getting."

Dartmouth's First Drag "House"

The House of Lewan aims to create a safe space at Dartmouth for students to learn, practice, and appreciate drag as an art form. It conducts weekly workshops on makeup, fashion, and performance, operates as a social space to celebrate authenticity, and hosts termly social events. The group plans to establish an annual drag show and invite professional drag artists to offer guidance and perform on campus.

JAM's coverage of local government recently included Hanover's annual Town Meeting where a $31 million operating budget was approved and residents debated a Gaza cease-fire resolution. By secret ballot voters approved an article calling for an immediate end of hostilities and U.S. military aid. Click the adjacent image for the full recording and fast forward to 2 hours 27 minutes for the public discussion, including a proposed amendment that failed.
