Events

Dear Cha pter Members,

This week I was so glad to hear that AAP advocacy efforts have paid off and that now pediatricians and other Medicaid providers can claim federal relief dollars as Medicare providers have been doing for weeks. Links to details in the first Update below.

If you have questions, please reach out to me. National AAP have made many of their experts available to us as we navigate this new program together.

Be well,
Lee

Although details are still coming, pediatricians can start the process of claiming federal relief funds.
UPDATES
Survey Results & Relief Funds for Pediatricians
Tha nk you to those of you who participated in our member survey last week. The results are available by clicking here. Most of you are experiencing volume and revenue loss of over 50% and Nevada AAP will be presenting this survey to Nevada Medicaid next week.

In the meantime, members received communication from the AAP that the federal funding we have been fighting for is starting to come through. The US Department of Health and Human Services has now opened its relief fund for Medicaid providers. HHS has released approximately $15 billion to Medicaid and CHIP providers who were left out of the previous financial relief packages.

To assist you in applying, AAP has created an FAQ  on the program.
Worth a Read!
Nevada AAP is excited to feature our newest blog post, this time from Nevada AAP member and PL2 Resident Representative from UNLV School of Medicine Nicholas Regas, DO.

Dr. Regas offers resources for pediatricians and parents on coping with the impact of COVID-19 on children in Nevada.

All Nevada AAP members are welcome to submit blog posts to LDMcAllister@AAP.net. Publishing decisions are determined by our Executive Committee.
OPPORTUNITIES
Make a Wish
Nevada AAP Chapter Member Elizabeth Mileti, DO, FAAP is one of the many AAP members who have treated kids who have benefited from a wish at Make a Wish.

Meet Jayson, a spirited 3-year-old who has an undying love for Spider-Man. He is a true fighter who has endured several intensive surgeries, including a liver transplant, to combat his liver disorder. This year, he discovered his one true wish was to go to Universal Studios to meet Spider-Man!

Dr. Mileti told the Nevada AAP, "One of my favorite things that I do as a physician is referring patients to Make a Wish. These deserving families and children have been through so much medically. The excitement and joy that Make a Wish is able to provide them is truly magical. The referral process is easy and takes minimal time to complete. The child and family then gets to enjoy the whole experience from wish discovery to the actual event. I am always so grateful to be able to make the referral and then hear about their wish experience and see the smiles on their faces and the pictures from the trip. Thank you Make a Wish for taking care of these critically ill children and making their wishes come true!"

The purpose of Make-A-Wish is to grant the wish of each child older than 2½ years and under 18 years diagnosed with a critical illness currently placing the child’s life in jeopardy. To learn more or to refer one of your patients visit  https://wish.org/medical-referral .
Uninsured Patients
Our friends at Immunize Nevada have created flyers, one for Northern Nevada and one for Southern Nevada, to help patients find medical resources if they are uninsured. Often, even when a child is covered in your office, the adults in the family may not have insurance. Please share these flyers, available in English and Spanish, with your families.
Although we are all practicing "social distancing", there are still online opportunities to "get together" to network and learn together. We may be physically separated, but not emotionally or intellectually.
