Woodman Museum Speaker Series: Patricia Violette on Native-Colonial Treaty Relations
Wednesday, February 20th, 7-8:30pm
182 Central Avenue, Dover
Guest speaker Patricia Violette will deliver a talk on relations between colonists and indigenous tribes in the mid-18th century, exploring the ramifications of treaties forged between native groups in New England and colonial governments. Violette will recount the actions of Royal Governor William Shirley, who served as Captain-General (Commander-in-Chief) of Massachusetts forces during two wars: King George's War, 1744 to 1748, and the French and Indian War, 1754 to 1763. Though most of the fighting in both wars took place in Europe, each also resulted in Massachusetts declaring war on the Indian tribes on its Eastern frontier in Maine. European treaties ended the fighting on the continent, but Massachusetts also signed separate treaties with the Indians, either to end the hostilities or to gain Indian permission for an expansion of Massachusetts military presence in the Kennebec River valley. Using the transcripts of three treaty conferences conducted by Shirley, Patricia Violette, Executive Director of Albacore Park Museum and Visitor Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, will compare key English and Indian cultural concepts, examine selected exchanges in the transcripts for cultural clues, and discuss why cultural differences made it so hard for Natives and non-Natives to achieve lasting peace.  More Information
Art Night at Cara
Friday, February 22nd, 8pm
11 Fourth Street, Dover
Dover has had a long history of Irish culture, with Irish Immigrants settling in the Granite State in relatively large numbers beginning in the mid 19th century. The public is invited to Cara Irish Pub to celebrate the art, culture and history of Ireland and to be part of this one-of-a-kind event.

Spectacular sculptures of Michael Lee will be unveiled. Along with these sculptures will be a range of paintings, graphics, posters and other work by Michael Lee and Tricia Sanborn, and live music to help celebrate the event.  Proudly supporting this work is The Art Center of Dover, along with the Dover Art Commission whose mission is the support of local art and artists.
Tusk (Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band)
Saturday, February 23rd, 8pm
31 Wakefield Street, Rochester
Tusk, The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute, is the #1 Tribute to Fleetwood Mac in the world!  Tusk covers all the great hits of Fleetwood Mac, which has featured the talents of Mick Fleetwood, Christine and John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and others over the years. The five seasoned, well-respected musicians comprising Tusk have been making music together in various combinations and styles, in original outfits and in cover bands, for over twenty-five years.  It seemed only fitting that they should come together to form the Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute, and pay homage to a group that dominated the charts during the band members' formative years.

Tickets, which range from $24 to $30, are available now to the general public. The Opera House box office is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10am to 5pm.   Tickets can be purchased at  www.rochesteroperahouse.com , by phone, and in person at the box office, located in Rochester City Hall.

Art Exhibition: Al La Carte
Exhibit runs through Friday, March 1st
1 Washington Street, Suite 1177, Dover
Food has been a subject of art since art has existed, as is demonstrated by the most ancient cave paintings such as those in Lascaux in France. Perhaps it's because food is so essential, perhaps it's because food itself can be art - but for whatever the reason, human beings have been making depictions of food for as long as we've been making depictions of anything.

A La Carte is a modern continuation of this ancient theme by member and resident artists at The Art Center. While we don't have ancient caves with pre-historic hunting scenes decorating the walls, visitors will have the opportunity to see the work of many local artists who have been challenged to produce works based upon this singular ancient theme.  www.theartcenterdover.com
