Message from President
Carrie Pavis

Greetings Soroptimists!

Well, it was another great week for SI Chico! We had a very efficient business meeting that left plenty of time for lots of happy dollar sharing, a fun SUDS at Kathy Erickson's house (thanks Kathy!) and, a great turnout at the SNR Fall District 1 meeting hosted by SI Bidwell Rancho.  I'm proud of our club for being recognized for our hard work! Some of our awards are Live Your Dream, Dream It Be It, SIA'S Diamond Campaign, and Club Giving!
It's an even bigger week upon us with our regular meeting, and then this weekend brings Epicurean Rendezvous. I can't wait.

This week Diane and Cori from The Peg Taylor Center will be our speakers and inform us as to what SI Chico can do to help senior women after the Camp Fire.
We will also say goodbye to two of our members; Past President Linda Lotspeich (1995/96) who has been a member since 1989 is moving to Arizona and, Gail Holbrook who will be moving to Texas after losing her home to the Camp Fire. We will say goodbye after our program.

Our meeting may run a little long. I encourage you all to stay and wish Linda and Gail a safe journey.

President,
This Week's Program

October Member of the month, Margarita Vega

I was born on November 13th, 1979, at Sutter Memorial in Sacramento, CA. I was born and raised in Northern California, from Sacramento to Paradise, then Chico. I'm the oldest of six, five girls and one boy, we all live in Chico. I have several children myself, two girls, one boy and four Shih Tzu's. I graduated as a student of the year in 1998 from Ridgeview High in Magalia.

In 2003, I got a job at La Hacienda. I started as a host, moved up to serving, and after one year, I worked my way into management. In 2011, myself and two others were given the opportunity to buy La Hacienda. I genuinely love what I do, and all the kids from (18-24) we employ are MY kids we're FAMILY. I get to see them grow and mature into young adults.

My most significant accomplishments are my kids; I have raised two well-rounded young women. Edward's only three so he has a way to go, but he knows to say thank you, please, excuse me, and of course the word us moms all love NO!

Fun facts you didn't know about me:
  • Mosquito's, to my itchy misfortune, absolutely adore my scent. With me around, everyone else is safe.
  • My favorite food is pizza ( major weakness)
  • I primarily write in cursive. A teacher once described my handwriting as "beautifully neat from afar, but illegible up close."
  • I love laughing so hard that it spurns on tears, causing my hidden abs to spasm, which results in shortness of breath. Laughing truly is the best medicine.
  • My favorite person to scare is my sister, Gabby. She has a fear of porcelain dolls, and I own several.
Congratulations Margarita for being our member of the month!

I really appreciate the timely manner that I have been receiving your articles and I hope that continues.  You all Rock!
