Brian Beckner, from Native Bird Boxes and the tour guide for our Pelican Sound Nature Tours, recently worked on all the birdhouses around the neighborhood, and checked for current activity.
Since preparing the birdhouses in the fall to now, some species have found the unit and are using it for sleeping overnight. We will watch for Eastern Screech Owls, Eastern Bluebirds, Carolina Wrens, Tufted Titmice, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Pileated Woodpeckers, Great Crested Flycatchers, Purple Martins and water fowl to begin nesting from now through early summer. Other common birds that we have seen nesting this season are Bald Eagles, Osprey, Great Horned Owls.
