The reason we require reservation for equipment gym time it is to ‘track’ members in the room in the event someone gets sick. This process allows us to alert other members, should there be such an instance.

Blood Pressure and Brain Health

We're all trying to figure out the recipe for healthy aging, and brain health is tops on the list. After all, a sharp mind can still thrive, even if your body starts to break down; but if your mind deteriorates, what kind of a life can you enjoy? Unfortunately, too many people suffer cognitive decline as they age, affecting memory, problem-solving, decision-making and even the ability to understand language.

As scientists work feverishly to find ways to treat or even prevent cognitive decline, particularly diseases such as Alzheimer's, they're also learning more about what we can do – while we're still younger and as we age – to keep our brains healthy for a lifetime.
One way, according to a new research review, involves keeping our blood pressure in the safe range. Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the review analyzed numerous previous studies, all of which had evaluated the relationship between blood pressure and dementia or cognitive impairment; specifically, the impact of reducing blood pressure. Study participants were almost 70 years of age, on average, and average blood pressure at baseline was high: 154 (14.9) mm Hg over 83.3 mm Hg ("normal" BP for most adults is 130/80, regardless of age, according to the latest guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology). Reducing blood pressure was "significantly associated with a lower risk of incident dementia or cognitive impairment."

While the studies in question utilized anti-hypertensive medication to lower blood pressure, in the vast majority of cases simple lifestyle adjustments involving diet and exercise can accomplish the same thing, both in terms of reducing BP and thus, reducing the risk of cognitive impairment. Now that's a win-win for brain health! Talk to your doctor to learn more.

G olf Operations Update

Now that the calendar has turned to June, we can say without a doubt that summer has arrived. Just feel the heat and humidity out there and you can tell. While this has been an unusual start of the summer season to say the least, we are starting to see a return to a somewhat sense of normalcy as long as we all stay diligent and continue to practice safe and socially distant procedures while golfing.

The sand and scoops will be returned to the fleet golf carts now. The staff will make sure those scoops are cleaned and sanitized before and after use. Since we are still mandating single riders, the user of the golf cart should be the only person touching and using that provided scoop. Be sure to use it a lot as you fill in those divots out there on the course. Fix those pitch marks on the greens too!

On the driving range you will see a return of the bag stands for your clubs. Baskets will still be withheld so the balls will be spread apart by 10 feet in piles.

The cart staff will now operate from their normal space when cleaning and sanitizing the carts near the bag drop area. We are still not providing assistance with the golf bags, but we will continue to stage the carts for you before play and clean and sanitize the carts after play. Continue to select any cart that is available at the staging area and check in with the starter before your tee time.

New cups for the golf course are ordered and should be installed within the week. The pool noodles will be removed, and a device will be placed on the flagstick that will allow the golfer to use their putter and “lift” the ball out of the hole without having to touch the flagstick or the bottom of the cup. We still ask that you do not touch or remove the flagstick while playing. The cups on the putting and chipping greens will still have the pool noodles.

Once the new cup device is installed and in play, posting of scores will be more legitimate. Please post your scores to the GHIN system by using your App or posting online. The posting stations inside the clubhouse are still not operational at this time.

Towels and Styrofoam cups will still not be provided so we suggest that you provide your own towel/cup from home when playing golf. The water machines are on, so it is recommended to bring a stainless steel “yeti” type cup or container with you on the course that keeps your ice and water cold.

Lastly, we are sad to say good-bye to one of our most dedicated employees over the last six years. All of you know Patrick out at the bag drop. He has decided to move on and pursue an opportunity elsewhere and we all wish him nothing but the best for his future. Patrick was an extremely hard worker and was well liked by everyone. He wanted to address the membership and say thank you. CLICK HERE to read the letter.
