Civic Engagement in Youth Independent Living

On the last Saturday in February, two of our Smith House residents exercised their freedom to vote for the first time.

Before voting, the girls participated in two independent living skills groups with  Halla Banafa, Director of Residential Services at Pendleton Place, where they researched the candidates and issues that were most important to them.
"They did such an amazing job and were so mature through the whole process," Banafa said. "Both girls have also been educating their peers about the importance of voting. It's been such a positive experience overall and I'm incredibly proud of them."

It meant a lot to Sierra to be able to vote when she turned 18. "I finally got to directly be a part of what change happens in this country," Sierra said.

Volunteer Spotlight: Junior League of Greenville

Pendleton Place is grateful to have been selected as a 2019-2020 Economic Mobility Community Partner by the Junior League of Greenville (JLG), who founded Pendleton Place in 1975. In addition to their financial support, we have benefited greatly from the many JLG volunteers who have have helped in so many ways including: Christmas wrapping, tutoring Smith House residents, sorting in the donation closet, providing clerical support, and volunteering at various community events on our behalf.

The JLG's Shop for Greenville fundraiser is happening NOW through March 15th and 100% of the proceeds generated from the sale of the JLG Shop for Greenville discount cards will support programs and community agencies, like Pendleton Place, who work to improve the lives of women and children. Learn more at www.ShopForGreenville.org

Thank you, Junior League of Greenville, for your support and all that you do for Pendleton Place!
