Highlights of Our Life and Work

This Sunday Rev. Joan McMurtry will be leading worship and will reflect on the curious case of the two sisters: different but the same, both liking Jesus.
This week's scripture reading is Luke 10:38-42 - Mary and Martha. 
Cafe Church   is taking a break for the summer and will be back again on September 8!  Everyone is welcome at the Crescent Site for Sunday worship throughout the summer.

Starting July 28 - We begin a 7 week sermon series on the Lord's Prayer based on the book by John Crossan, "The Greatest Prayer: Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of Jesus" .

News This Week
Next Steps at White Rock Site
Another milestone was reached last week when the demolition of the building on the Semiahmoo Ave site took place. Crews are now busy clearing the property of debris in order to prepare for excavation which is expected to begin in September/October.
The Re-development Committee, in consultation with the Interior Designer is happy to now be busy discussing finishing and furnishing for the 6000 sq ft multi-purpose facility.
Construction is expected to take about two years with the goal of completion in the Summer/Fall of 2021.
A Celebration of Life
will be held for Harry Baedak on Saturday, August 10 at 2 pm at the Crescent site of Peninsula United Church.

Cyclone Idai
Thank you for your thoughtful gift of $763.00 to support relief and reconstruction of those who have been affected by Cyclone Idai.
Mandate Magazine   
The latest issue is on the table in the narthex at the Crescent Site. It is jam-packed with stories and information. In the lead story " Wisdom in the Margins", Mandate speaks to people with disabilities about their experiences in the United Church.

Welcome Susan Smith to the Naramata Board
The board welcomed Susan Smith to her first board meeting as the new Managing Director. 
The Fircom Challenge is a half-day hiking adventure that raises money to make summer camp financially accessible for children and families.

Participants raise pledges and then partake in a challenging hike on Vancouver's North Shore.

Hikers will meet at the base of the mountain, do some campy activities, climb the mountain showing our camp spirit, and then bask in the view at the top celebrating all the funds raised.

*    Level of Difficulty: Difficult (but short!)
*    Time to Hike: 1.5 Hours

Support our meal program which allows us to provide breakfast and lunch for up to 200 people weekly.
Your gift to the meal program at First could provide hot, healthy, and delicious meals for our DTES neighbours or the supplies needed to serve these meals. It could also help us purchase much-needed equipment for the kitchen. Thank you for your gift and for the support you share with us all year long.
