Convergence Leadership Project - NEW
|
The UCC's Center for Progressive Renewal just opened registration for the next cohort of an online leadership development program called the
Convergence Leadership Project.
Author and national faith leader, Brian McLaren, is the director of the program, supported by Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis from Middle Collegiate Church in NY, Diana Butler Bass, Bruce Reyes-Chow, Lindsay Andreolli-Comstock, Jim Keat and others. Living in the age of intersectional movement building, we need leaders and congregations prepared to lead the way. After two years of development, CLP has proven to be a very powerful program for helping congregations make the transition from being "organized churches" to "organizing churches."
Leaders (lay and ordained) must be nominated, interviewed and accepted into the program. They are looking for congregations with imagination, courage and capacity. Church size or location doesn't impact the outcome of the experience - it's more about an openness to change and awareness that a new kind of imagination is needed to move the progressive faith movement forward.

Jerusalem Tables - Please Sign Up by Monday
|
In a moment of great change and growth in the early church, Paul and
Barnabas
went up to the apostles and elders in Jerusalem with their testimonies. In Acts 15:7b-9, 12a Paul addressed this body, "Siblings, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.
8
God, who knows the heart, showed acceptance of them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as it was given to us.
9
God did not discriminate between us and them, for their hearts were purified by faith." The whole assembly became silent as they listened.
The Council at Jerusalem reminds us that from its e
arliest roots the Church had challenging conversations about the Church
.
Now
is time for another Jerusalem conversation.
In
Apostolic tradition, let us gather for discussion about
BE-
ing
the
Church in the world today.

Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger
(Note: The hardback book comes with a study guide)
14th Annual Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year, Leadership
Explorers Lewis and Clark had to adapt. While they had prepared to find a waterway to the Pacific Ocean, instead they found themselves in the Rocky Mountains. You too may feel that you are leading in a cultural context you were not expecting. You may even feel that your training holds you back more often than it carries you along. Drawing from his extensive experience as a pastor and consultant, Tod Bolsinger brings decades of expertise in guiding churches and organizations through uncharted territory. He offers a combination of illuminating insights and practical tools to help you reimagine what effective leadership looks like in our rapidly changing world. If you're going to scale the mountains of ministry, you need to leave behind canoes and find new navigational tools. Reading this book will set you on the right course to lead with confidence and courage.
If you have a book recommendation that you would like to share, please send it to
Stephanie.

The Power of Habit
|
Registration deadline: January 20, 2019
Everyone is invited to participate (lay and clergy)!
(Please read the book prior to February 6th)
A significant portion of what we do each day is not the result of deliberate decision making, but out of habit. Habits have power, and some are good while others are bad for us. Whether as individuals, an organization, or a community, those habits can lead to success or to frustration. In his book "The Power of Habit," Charles Duhigg examines the nature of our habits and how it is possible to change bad practices into good ones.
Penn Central Conference is offering the opportunity for interested pastors and lay people to explore the nature of habits, both personally and as a church (for indeed churches have habits) during the month of February.
The group will focus on how changing habits can lead to more effective leadership and witness within the church.
Date: Wednesdays in February (February 6, 13, 20, 27)
Time: 10:00am
Location: Penn Central Conference Office - 900 S. Arlington Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17109 or via ZOOM
Facilitator: Rev. George Heberling
