Pentecost and PCC's Annual Meeting - NEW

Sunday is Pentecost! Wear red to celebrate the birth of God's church! But before you go church on Sunday to celebrate the Breath of God giving life to the Church, come to the Penn Central Conference Annual Meeting and be part of the discussion for how God's Breath might blow new life, renaissance, to the ministry of the Church today.
 
I love the Hebrew word for God's breath, wind, ruach. To say it makes you feel breath and feel alive. As I sit on the porch with a gentle breeze blowing around me, I know that God continually breathes on the Church today as surely as God did on the Apostles that day so long ago.
 
There are workshops and worships, fellowship and meals planned on the campus of Susquehanna University beginning Friday at 10:00 AM. Across two worship services, we will hear from the United Church of Christ's General Minister and President, Rev. Dr. John Dorhauer and our new Transitional Conference Minister, Rev. Dr. Carrie Call, as well as sing together the original, award-winning hymn "We will Be the Church" by Colonial Park Minister of Music and Worship Arts, Scott Siciliano. We will hear challenging words calling forth action and we will know the breath of God still breathes life into each of us and into the Church.
 
Come out on Friday and Saturday to feel that breath and know that we are called to Renaissance Ministry in the Church today and God will breathe the very breath of life that we need into us when we gather all together in one place. Church come, worship and live!

Welcome, Paul! - NEW
 
We are pleased to announce that C. Paul Keller has been hired to take over as Office Manager when Wendy Hepler retires at the end of June. He will begin working part time during June and will become full-time the first of July. He is known as Paul and comes with a wealth of related experience in business and in the church.
 
Paul is presently working as a church administrator for Hummelstown UCC, and has experience as assistant manager for 8 years and manager for 4 years of a shoe store in Mechanicsburg. He has also been continuing his work there part time. He is an active member of the MCC Church of the Spirit in Harrisburg, taking on many volunteer tasks there. He is looking forward to a full-time position with Penn Central Conference. Starting part-time in June will give him the opportunity to work with and learn from Wendy. He will be present at Annual Meeting this weekend, so please stop by and welcome him to our Conference staff.

A Few Tips for Annual Meeting:
  • If it is your first Annual Meeting, we have an Orientation at 11:30 in our hospitality suite in Degenstein.  Please join our Vice Moderator, Shirley Keith Knox, to hear about Annual Meeting.
  • Pillows are needed for those staying on campus at SU. (All other linens are supplied.)
  • Registration will open at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 7.  Lunch kicks off at 12:00 Noon.
  • All files that you need are located on our Web site - https://pccucc.org/annual-meeting/
  • Two important votes will be taking place...The first is the budget. Also, requiring a vote is the endorsement of the emergency Green New Deal.  We will hear from the Creation Justice team about endorsing the Green New Deal resolution at Synod.  A new FAQ has been posted on our Web site.  
  • Dressing in layers is good... sometimes SU can be a little chilly.
  • Bring your water bottle so you can stay hydrated. 
  • There will be opportunities to meet Rev. Dr. Carrie Call, our new Transitional Conference Minister during our Friday evening fellowship as well as during the workshop time slots.
  • All decks will be shared on the PCC Web site so you can follow along on your device if you would like.

August 25th: How Shall We Approve Individuals for Ministry?
3:00-4:30 PM at Lancaster Theological Seminary Dietz Hall Refectory (Gypsy Kitchen)
 
Join us for a facilitated discussion about how the preparation for authorization might be changing in light of the new Manual on Ministry. We will explore the possibilities of multiple paths and how they work. We will also discuss the potential new assessment committee to be formed at the Conference setting for assessment of all Members in Discernment. 
 
We promise great food from the Gypsy Kitchen and stimulating dialog with colleagues! Please register in advance and we look forward to hearing your reflections on this critical topic for the church.

Youth Leader to minister to the youth at Colonial Park UCC. Organize, facilitate and encourage youth activities, teach Sunday School and attend Worship. We are looking for someone to be a Christ-like example for the youth, help them explore and grow in their faith, and communicate God's message in a way that makes it relevant for them. Position is 10 hours per week for a salary of $4,800. Send resumes to [email protected] by June 17, 2019.
Church Choir Accompanist for the Colonial Park UCC Sanctuary Choir.  Candidate must demonstrate proficiency playing traditional and contemporary sacred music on both the piano and pipe organ and have experience accompanying a church choir.  Bachelor's degree in Music desired.  Responsible for all choir rehearsals, Sunday Worship and special church holidays (evenings on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday).  Position is approximately 6 hours per week for salary of $4,560 per year.
