Fourth- and fifth-year structural option students recently toured the construction site of the new Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Building. Representatives from Baker, Ingram & Associates discussed the structural design of the project, with a special emphasis on floor vibration calculations and design due to the sensitive nature of the lab equipment that will be housed in the finished building. Barton Malow representatives provided students with a tour of the project site.

John Messner, professor of architectural engineering, and Zhouqian Jiang, an architectural engineering doctoral candidate, partnered with Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a software development company that specializes in infrastructure design software, and Penn State Office of Physical Plant (OPP) to develop a real-time, virtual building mapping and monitoring system for Penn State.  >>

Partnership responds to solar energy opportunity in American Indian community

In the peak of the hot summer sun, a small but important step forward was made on the journey toward a sustainable future. In summer 2017, 14 Penn State students, faculty and alumni traveled to Montana to install a solar energy system on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. The system will defray the energy costs of a community center and emergency shelter. The system will also provide a basis for backup power in the event of an emergency.  >>

Representatives from Penn State at the Navy Yard recently traveled to Europe to meet with United Nations ambassadors, Irish government officials, and representatives from École Polytechnique Fédéraler De Lausanne (EPFL) to discuss sustainable building principles and related research and educational opportunities.   >>
