PennTAP Selected as Grant Recipient for EPA Pollution Prevention Program
This grant will enable our team to provide metal manufacturers and fabricators as well as food and beverage manufacturers with opportunities to attend and participate in educational regional roundtable events. From these discussions, our team will identify National Emphasis Area (NEA)-focused training needs and opportunities, develop tools and materials specifically targeted to NEAs, and conduct training seminars to businesses to promote hazardous waste source reduction, energy reduction, and water conservation strategies. The PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) is now soliciting proposals from researcher-led teams at any accredited PA college/university engaged in a research project that seeks to advance a new product or process innovation with a PA manufacturer. In this cycle, $1.9 million may be made available for research projects. Award levels for individual projects can range from $25,000 to $70,000. PennTAP has a history of successfully matching up SME needs to Penn State University resources - contact your regional PennTAP advisor for assistance.

The PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)'s Agriculture Energy Efficiency Rebate program can help defray the costs of LED lighting, ventilation equipment, or dairy equipment upgrades for your farm. Applicants must meet the definition of a normal farming operation under Pennsylvania’s Right to Farm Law to be eligible for a rebate. Contact your regional PennTAP advisor to start determining eligibility.

Bring your hardware from prototype to production with this virtual bootcamp for hardware startups. Three applicants will be selected to receive up to $20k in grant funding to work with a US manufacturer to advance the MRL of their product. Maximum grant awards will be determined by project eligibility, project location (relating to Environmental Justice areas), and environmental impact. The Pennsylvania Manufacturing Advisory Council, a nonpartisan partnership of manufacturers and industry experts, has released Pennsylvania’s Manufacturing Competitiveness Playbook – an actionable strategy document that identifies three game changers and 10 specific recommendations to make Pennsylvania’s manufacturing economy more robust and resilient – thus creating more good-paying jobs for Pennsylvanians. Based on input from more than 500 manufacturers, the Playbook is grounded in and responsive to the current challenges and opportunities facing manufacturers in the commonwealth. Learn more.

On Tuesdays, October 18th through November 15th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., NEPIRC's mechanical engineer Mark Morgis will instruct the Lean Specialist certificate program. The series of courses covers the concepts and tools professionals need to support Continuous Improvement efforts in today's work environment. This course is eligible for WEDnetPA funding. The Spark Wilkes-Barre Grant Program was launched to generate economic development activity in the region by facilitating the growth of new companies and relocation of existing businesses to the City of Wilkes-Barre. This program will provide financial incentives that correspond with the completion of free current and existing business development curriculum modules, provided by Wilkes-Barre Connect partners - pairing educational pathways with grant funding to help individuals successfully launch their business and ensure its sustainability in a Wilkes-Barre City location.
