Community Learning Centers

The Pennsylvania PBS stations are always looking for ways to partner with local libraries, businesses, and community service providers to foster literacy and learning in our communities. Several stations have achieved this by creating dedicated spaces that keep children learning while their parents and caregivers attend meetings, use the laundromat, receive job training, and more.

|
WQLN has four Book Nooks that give children a safe space to learn and explore. Children of all ages will find PBS KIDS books that celebrate diversity to reflect the reading interests of the entire community. Children can take the books to keep for their home libraries.
|
WQLN also has a Wash & Learn learning space so children have access to high-quality books and activities to explore. Pictured above is a child using the space at Denny's Laundromat.

The WPSU education team also collaborated with Blair County Head Start to develop "Cozy Corners on the Go." The WPSU team made on-the-go resource kits for case managers to use during family visits. The kits include handouts for parents, caregivers, and children with links to activities and videos that help prepare children for new situations, such as going to the doctor and dentist.

WITF has created seven Family Play and Learn spaces in health and community organization centers. Books, activities, and games are available for children while their parents and caregivers have appointments.
