A Message from our Pastor and Teacher
|
Sunday, May 23 ~~ Pentecost, Music Sunday, and a Return to In-Person Worship
Please wear Pentecost colors on Sunday – red, orange, and yellow – as we reignite the flame in our Sanctuary. Thanks!
Strengthen the Church Special Offering will be received this Sunday
The Strengthen the Church (STC) Offering reflects the shared commitment of people across the United Church of Christ to cooperatively build up the UCC. Conferences and the national setting equally share the gifts given by members and friends through their local congregations. The funds raised support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations. By your generosity to this offering, you build up the Body of Christ.
As God calls our congregations to be the church in new ways, your generosity will plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches and develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults.

Dear Members and Friends,
After 440 days, we are finally returning to our Sanctuary! May 23rd is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Church, and a fitting day to return to our Sanctuary. We will celebrate this day with Music Sunday; it will truly be a day of praise and elation! In preparation for May 23rd, please note the following:
1). Please wear your mask at all times and maintain physical distance. Hand sanitizer is available in the Narthex. A limited supply of masks in Pentecost Red will be available.
2). We will initially limit seating capacity in the Sanctuary to sixty persons with an additional ten persons in the Narthex. There will be an overflow section in Covenant Hall where the service will be livestreamed. Doors will be propped open to create a cross breeze.
3). Families with children: At this time, children who are three years and younger will stay in worship with their families. Children who are four years and older will leave after the Children's Circle with Ms. Susi for outdoor Sunday School. A virtual Sunday School class will be held at 9:30 am with Ms. Susi for those unable to attend in-person worship.
4). Due to restrictions, there will be no coffee or goodies. You may socialize outdoors.
5). We will continue to livestream the service for those who are unable to attend or prefer to worship at home.
This is a momentous occasion of great celebration. Thank you for journeying with us. We miss you. We love you. We look forward to gathering together in-person!
In Great Love,
Mary Fung Jill Kirchner-Rose
President Pastor

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team
|
“Black and Hispanic people across the United States have received a disproportionately smaller share of vaccinations to date…and vaccine disparities have grown in some of the most socially vulnerable parts of the nation, leaving many low-income communities of color with vaccination rates well below the national average. However, state and federal data reveal that the country has made some progress toward vaccine parity. Since March, nearly every state reporting the race and ethnicity of vaccinated people has seen the Black share of the total vaccinated population increase, inching closer to the Black share of the general population.”

May 18, 2021 Board Meeting Update from Jackie Patrick
|
As your Member-at-Large I am excited to have this opportunity to keep the congregation updated on the happenings of the Board!
Moment of inspiration: Pastor Jill opened the meeting with a Bible reading from Isaiah ch.43, vs 19, followed by a prayer.
For the good of the church:
Carole Beswick from the Personnel Committee led a discussion regarding:
- Erin’s Call Letter
- Vacancies in staffing: Prior to filling each of these positions the Personnel Committee will discuss ways to change these job descriptions to meet the current needs of the church.
Jennie, Hospitality Lead, led a discussion around what fellowship will look like in the future.
Sue W. from Church Growth:
-
Shared an advertisement to be placed in the Redlands Community News. The ad will spotlight our in-person and on-line worship on Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
- Discussed creating a list of important documents that could be live linked in Office365 and/or on the church website to make it easier for church/board members to access.
As the Board moves to utilizing Office365 Teams to collaborate, 4 board members volunteered to offer tutoring to additional Board members who need support learning the new platform.
Jill asked the Board’s opinion about moving away from a paper version of the church bulletin.
To accommodate in-person worship, Bibles and Hymnals will be returned to the pews.
If you have any questions, concerns or inspirational thoughts you would like for me to share with the Board, please do not hesitate to email me: patrickjackie25@yahoo.com
Sincerely,
Jackie Patrick
Member-at-Large
