| | | We're welcoming new members during our church services June 7, and we'd love you to consider it! Whether you're new, or you've been around for a while, if you're interested in joining the church — or want to know more about what that means — talk to one of the ministers. | | |
We worship through the summer next to Marblehead Light at Chandler Hovey Park, at 8am, with coffee hour to follow. Remember to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Children are welcome, and we'll provide quiet activities for them to enjoy while they worship with their families. Our 10am services will continue in the Sanctuary (the choir is off for the summer, and children will remain with their families during the service).
As in the past, if it is raining at 8 am, the service will be moved to the Sanctuary. Look for the sandwich board sign at the Devereux Beach entrance: if green, go to the Lighthouse; if red, the service will be held in the Sanctuary.

Spaces remain for volunteers who would like to help at the Village School Organic Garden to grow, harvest and deliver vegetables for the Marblehead Food Pantry. If you're interested, contact Ruth Duell at reduell@gmail.com.
Additional volunteer positions are available for planting natives with the Marblehead Conservancy on May 23. Contact Don Morgan at dl.morgan@verizon.net to sign up.
| | On Sunday morning, May 3rd, six young people were confirmed in our church: Holden Bishop, Hudson Hammond, Shannon Hurley, Connor Jackson, Owen McCormick, and Peter Watt. We welcome them with open arms! So that you can get to know them a little better, over the next few issues of the newsletter, we will feature them with a picture and a little information that they wanted you to know about themselves. | | As we adjust the numbers of classes we offer and dream about next year, your input would be so helpful! Click HERE to respond to this survey about your experience and dreams for Old North's children's programs (Rev. Christine is also just happy to talk if surveys aren't your thing). This survey is designed for parents, but all are welcome to reply! Contact Rev. Christine for questions or insights. | |
Life and Living Course Continues
May 31st
“Trust in Personal Relationships”
This is a follow-up of our last discussion on ‘Trust in Societal Context”. When there is not trust between people, nations fall apart. Similarly, when trust in personal relationships is lacking, relationships break down. The bedrock of social life is trusting each other. Trust connects everything – our families, friendships, communities, or how we built nations.
As always we gather in person in the Great Room of Old North Church’s Stacey Street Office, from 11:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M., or on-line via the Zoom link.
If you would like to join the discussion and are not on the mailing-list, email: elsewiersma@comcast.net or contact the church office (781-631-1244), or email: office@onchurch.org
Future date: June 28, “Friendship”.

| | The Annual Meeting of the Church will be held on Sunday, June 14 at 11am in the Sanctuary, immediately following the 10am worship service. During the meeting, we will recognize Lisa Nahatis as she retires from her role as Office Manager. She has provided Old North with dedicated, invaluable service for 24 years! Please join us at the annual meeting, when we will honor Lisa, and then join in a celebration in the Parish Hall of her and her work for ONC. | | |
Friday, June 19, 7:30pm: OnWeGo is a collaboration between David Thorne Scott (voice/bass), Mark Shilansky (piano/voice), Sara Caswell (violin), and Eric Byers (guitar/voice) embracing jazz, popular, and world music, with an emphasis on vocal harmony and collective improvisation. Original songs are heard side by side with carefully chosen covers, in arrangements that feature the group members’ virtuoso playing and telepathic interplay.
A free-will offering will be gratefully accepted.
| | The Narthex Display for Spring/Summer | | "First Church Members in the Revolution” | | In honor of America’s birthday, the narthex display through the summer features historical members of the congregation who were heroes in the cause for Independence as well as modern ones who portray them. | | |
A monastic practice of scripture, reflection and prayer dating back to the 4th century, at Old North lectio divina has been adapted and practiced for more than ten years every Tuesday morning from 9 to about 10:30 am. We all take turns being the leader to select the readings.
We have welcomed newcomers, some not from Old North, who seem to find soul food in the practice and the shared reflections that are part of it.
We meet at 9 am both in person in the “Great Room” on Stacey St. and on Zoom.
We begin each meeting with a context-setting call to worship. Then we pair a scripture reading with a poem, chosen by the leader for the day and read aloud. We then move into 21 minutes of silent meditation, marked by chimes, and finally we share in “safe space” our responses – personal and intellectual. We end each session with prayers for healing and the Lord’s Prayer.
It is a rich time of being together in community and quite like no other. We invite you to give it a try.
