PEORIA (June 15, 2022) – Gwynn Family Aquatic Center hours are changing effective Thursday, June 16, 2022.
"The heat wave has come early and combined with the return of full operations, we are happy to see that usage is back and bigger than ever," stated Executive Director Emily Cahill.
Gwynn Family Aquatic Center and the pool at Proctor Recreation Center both opened to the public last week for the 2022 season. In that short amount of time, the pool has welcomed hundreds of swimmers who are eager to get back in the water after a two year respite.
"Like other park districts and public pools across the country, we are trying to balance staff resources with demand, while working to ensure a high quality experience for everyone who comes to the pool," Cahill continued. To ensure the best possible balance, the District has identified the need to restructure what the day looks like at Gwynn Family Aquatic Center.
Effective Thursday, June 16th, Gwynn Family Aquatic Center will be open from Monday-Friday on the following set schedule:
- 12-3pm for children 0-12, with a parent/guardian 18 and over. Children must be supervised and accompanied by their parent the whole visit. Adults are invited to swim during this timeframe too. Summer camps who use the aquatic center are encouraged to come during this timeframe.
- 3:30-5pm for children and adults 12+
The pool at Proctor Recreation Center will remain open for all ages from 12-4pm, Monday-Friday. Splashpads at Logan Recreation Center and Proctor Recreation Center are also open daily from 11am-7pm daily.
"While we understand the change is not ideal, it is vital to help ensure that ALL children are kept safe while swimming at our facility," stated Cahill. "Splitting the day into more manageable timeframes helps our guards focus on keeping those in the water safe AND helps keep adult to child ratios at a level that ensures a quality experience for everyone who visits us."
Gwynn Family Aquatic Center also offers a wet sand play area, sand volleyball court and grass play area.
