Peoria Park District Asks for Community Input on Columbia Playground Design!

PEORIA, IL (June 5, 2025) – The Peoria Park District is inviting the public to help select a new playground design for Columbia Park. District staff and Board of Trustees are asking community members to review three proposed concepts and provide feedback through an online survey open now through Friday, June 13.

In addition to the online survey, community members are encouraged to attend a public input session on Monday, June 10, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Columbia Park to view the designs in person and share their thoughts directly with Park District staff.

“We’re asking the public to share their feedback and help us choose one of three concepts,” said Peoria Park District Executive Director Emily Cahill. “We are especially grateful to the City of Peoria for helping to fund this project through a Community Development Block Grant, and we want to ensure that those who consider Columbia Park their neighborhood park have a chance to shape its future.”

Design Highlights:

  • Option 1 includes a ramped play structure with integrated shade, an inclusive see-saw and whirl, musical play features, a communication panel, and a spiral slide.
  • Option 2 features a ramped structure with shade, a spiral slide, and a mix of spinning and musical play elements.
  • Option 3 offers a ramped unit with shade, a duo spinner, a sensory cove climber with a cozy spot, a flower casting colorful shadows for visual interest, a playhouse for imaginative play, and musical features.

Columbia Park is located next to the McClure Branch of the Peoria Public Library and currently offers picnic tables and a walking trail with a StoryWalk. Planned improvements include the new playground and a picnic shelter.

The total project cost is $475,000, with construction expected to be completed by the end of the year.
