PEORIA (July 6, 2026) – The Peoria Park District invites community members to attend a special Talk About It Tuesday hosted jointly by the Board of Trustees' Planning and Programming Committees on Tuesday, July 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Owens Ice Center. The public meeting will provide an opportunity to learn about the future of one of the region's premier ice facilities and share feedback on proposed improvements.
Owens Ice Center is currently in the design phase of a major facility improvement project, with construction anticipated to begin in 2028. Planned enhancements include a new ice plant, expanded bleacher seating at Rink 2 with additional locker rooms, upgrades to existing locker facilities, an expanded lobby, a new concessions space, and additional parking.
"Owens Ice Center has been part of our community for generations, and we're excited to begin sharing the vision for its future," stated Emily Cahill, Executive Director of the Peoria Park District. "This conversation gives community members the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share ideas as we continue planning improvements that will serve our community for years to come."
Talk About It Tuesday is the Peoria Park District's public engagement initiative designed to connect community members with the Board of Trustees and District leadership. This special joint session of the Planning and Programming Committees will focus on the proposed improvements to Owens Ice Center, giving attendees an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and provide input early in the planning process.
During the meeting, attendees will:
- View preliminary renovation concepts.
- Learn more about the project's timeline and design process.
- Ask questions of District staff and Board members.
- Share feedback to help inform future planning.
One attendee will also receive a pair of open skate passes to Owens Ice Center.
