PEORIA (July 1, 2026) – The Peoria Park District invites the community to celebrate culture, recreation, and connection at Streets Belong to Me: Polynesian Luau on Friday, July 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Glen Oak Park.
Streets Belong to Me is a free community event that brings neighbors together through shared experiences while highlighting the role parks play in creating welcoming spaces where everyone belongs. This year's Polynesian Luau theme invites guests to experience the traditions and spirit of Polynesian culture through live entertainment, interactive activities, and opportunities to connect with local organizations and one another.
"Streets Belong to Me is about creating spaces where people from all walks of life can come together, celebrate our community, and build meaningful connections," said Chanel Hargrave-Murry, Supervisor of Community Connections for the Peoria Park District. "Our parks have the power to bring people together, and this event reflects that by encouraging families to explore, learn, and experience something new alongside their neighbors."
The event will feature Polynesian dance performances, cultural demonstrations, hands-on activities, family games, giant inflatables, children's crafts, Rec 'n Roll activities, community resource organizations, food trucks, and other attractions for all ages.
Guests are encouraged to make the most of their visit by participating in FriYAY, Glen Oak Park's weekly summer celebration. Visitors can enjoy extended evening hours at the Peoria Zoo, Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum, and rides aboard the Glen Oak Express train, all in one destination for a full evening of family fun.
Throughout National Park and Recreation Month, the Peoria Park District is celebrating The Power of Parks, recognizing the moments, memories, and connections that happen every day in parks, trails, facilities, and programs across the community. Streets Belong to Me reflects that theme by bringing people together to celebrate culture, recreation, and the shared experiences that strengthen Peoria.
"Every park has the ability to create connections," Hargrave-Murry said. "Whether someone comes for the entertainment, discovers a new organization, or simply enjoys an evening outdoors with family and friends, we hope they leave with memories that remind them why community matters."
Streets Belong to Me is free and open to the public. Guests can also enjoy FriYAY activities throughout Glen Oak Park. On July 3, the Peoria Zoo will host a donation day, allowing guests to pay what they wish for admission. Admission to the Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum is $3 per person, and rides aboard the Glen Oak Express train are $3 per person.
