PEORIA (June 27, 2024) – The Peoria Park District had a full agenda at last night's Park Board Meeting that greenlit many substantial projects for the District and its collaborators.
"The alignment of key District commitments in this single meeting marks a significant public milestone for several critical projects that the District has been diligently developing, some over the course of several years," stated PPD Executive Director Emily Cahill. While some of those are PPD initiatives, others are collaborative projects for the District. "The critical work the District undertakes for the community cannot be accomplished by the District alone," Cahill continued. "A significant part of our success lies in the essential partnerships we form within the communities we serve."
The projects include:
Architectural Services for Peoria Zoo Improvements
Trustees approved a contract for design services and construction administration services in the amount of $2,048,950 focused on improvements to the original elements of the Zoo incluing the Tropics Building and the tiger enclosure. As the owner and operator or Peoria Zoo, this District oversees the contracts and enhancements but the funds will come from funds raised and stewarded by Peoria Zoological Society. This is the first step in a new Capital Campaign for the Peoria Zoo to include renovations of the Tropics/Conservation building and the Tiger exhibit. Once contracted, Torre Design will work with key stakeholders to identify the scope of each project before fundraising starts.
