PEORIA (June 6, 2022) – The Peoria Park District will host a Press Conference on Monday, June 6th at 10:30am at Gwynn Family Aquatic Center to celebrate the Summer of Go!

Summer is here in the Peoria Park District and we want to celebrate the opening of Gwynn Family Aquatic Center after two years of closure. The District will also highlight all the other ways you can have FUN and get outside this summer!
On Monday, June 6th, the pools at Gwynn Family Aquatic Center and Proctor Recreation Center will welcome swimmers for the 2022 season. Due to forced closure over the last two years, Gwynn Family Aquatic Center is opening its doors for the first time since before the pandemic. "This pool is essential in providing recreational opportunity for the community, and we are very happy to open the pool this year," stated Peoria Park District Executive Director Emily Cahill.

Gywnn Family Aquatic Center offers a zero depth pool, water slide, diving well, and wet sand play area. The pool will be open Monday-Friday from noon-5pm. The pool at Proctor Recreation Center will be open Monday-Friday from noon-4pm. The District also opened two splashpads at Proctor Recreation and Logan Recreation Center on Memorial Day that will be open daily from 11am-7pm until Labor Day.

"Summer is a busy season for the District as our spaces and places come to life and serve as the backdrop for summer memories," stated Cahill. As part of the Summer of Go! Press Conference the District will also provide information regarding the following summer programs:

  • Summer of Fun Pass: Again this year, the District is happy to provide unlimited access to Peoria Zoo, Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum, Owens Ice Center, Golf Learning Center and Gwynn Family Aquatic Center for all Peoria Public School District 150 students, as well as students residing in 61603 and 61604 zip codes from now through August 31 thanks to funding from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority;
  • Coming to a Park Near You: Unique summer programming like Yoga in the Park, Parks on Tap, PPD on the Go, and Movies in the Park will return again this year;
  • PPD Events and Programs: The District has a long list of events and programs for the summer that will appeal to all ages and interests. The RiverFront will once again be home to concerts and Cultural Festivals; the trails will welcome hikers for guided hikes; and guests can come eye-to-eye with our tower as you feed a giraffe at the Zoo;
  • Sports: Our parks and facilities are once again the home for youth and adult sports, including free youth baseball lessons through our partnership with the Peoria Baseball Association;
