This year’s celebration will feature appearances by costume character Daniel Tiger from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Costume Character Super Grover from Sesame Street. The appearances are funded by the PNC Foundation through its PNC Grow Up Great® bilingual early childhood education initiative and are part of Be My Neighbor Day, which promotes kindness and neighborliness. Be My Neighbor Day is inspired by the PBS KIDS series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, produced by Fred Rogers Productions and aired locally on WTVP.
Families will also have the opportunity to explore the PNC Grow Up Great Mobile Learning Adventure, an interactive, traveling exhibit offering hands-on educational activities for children and caregivers. The experience features interactive kiosks and play-based learning activities encouraging children to imagine the future, explore the difference between a need versus a want, and more.
“PNC is proud to support PNC Worldwide Day of Play because experiences like this help young children learn, grow and thrive through play,” said Brian Ray, PNC regional president for Central Illinois. “Through PNC Grow Up Great, we’ve spent more than two decades supporting early childhood education, and events like this bring families together in a way that supports healthy development and strengthens communities like Peoria.”
Additional activities throughout the day include face painting, carnival games, inflatables, the Discovery Barn, Touch-A-Truck, a community resource fair, and the Clyde West Fishing Derby, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fishing derby is open to children ages 16 and younger, with fishing gear, volunteers, and a stocked lagoon provided.
Event attendees will also receive discounted general admission ($3 per person, per venue) to the Peoria Zoo and Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum, both located in Glen Oak Park.
“On behalf of the thousands of children who have enjoyed PNC Worldwide Day of Play over the last decade, we are grateful to PNC for its commitment to our community and support for activities that help create a vibrant place to live, work and play,” said Emily Cahill, Executive Director of the Peoria Park District. “It is one of our favorite events of the year.”
PNC has been the presenting sponsor of Worldwide Day of Play since its inception. Launched in 2013 by Nickelodeon and The Big Help, the event encourages children to be physically active, supports early learning and promotes healthy lifestyles for families.
