PEORIA, IL (June 10, 2025) The Peoria Park District will host a ribbon cutting on Thursday, June 12 at 3:00 PM to celebrate the opening of a new playground at the Franciscan Recreation Complex (FRC) in West Peoria. The celebration will continue with Parks on Tap beginning at 4:00 PM, offering refreshments and entertainment for all ages.

The new playground encourages children of all abilities to play, imagine, and explore. Highlights of the playground include:

  • Adventure features such as the Stego Climber, Cliff Wall, and Ergo Link
  • Sensory-rich and quiet play areas, including the Nature Discovery Table, Leaf Seat, and Toad Stool
  • Interactive play panels like the Letters Maze and Tic-Tac-Toe to support problem-solving and social engagement
  • Wide pathways and shaded seating to ensure comfort and visibility for caregivers

“Our work at the Peoria Park District starts and ends with the communities we serve,” said Emily Cahill, Executive Director of the Peoria Park District. “This playground, shaped by public input, reflects the vibrant energy and recreational spirit of this neighborhood, welcoming children of all abilities to play and grow.  We are grateful to the residents of West Peoria for their shared feedback and their ongoing engagement at FRC. ”
