A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR
Dear Saco Citizens,
Saco's Comprehensive Plan Committee has been working hard over the last year to review, update, and add chapters to the 2011 Comprehensive Plan.
Comprehensive planning
is a process that identifies community goals and aspirations in terms of community development. The outcome of comprehensive planning is the Comprehensive Plan which guides public policy in terms of transportation, utilities, land use, recreation, natural resources, public facilities, and housing.
Following the anticipated adoption of the revised plan in 2018, we will start to review Saco's zoning and explore rezoning to prepare for smart growth. City staff will host several focus groups in the spring to properly implement the recommendations from the updated Comprehensive Plan.
Why do we need to revise our community's zoning? Word has gotten out that Saco is a great place to live which has had an impact on property values. We have to be strategic about how we manage growth, in part to help keep the community affordable for those who have lived here a long time, and also for those who want to join our wonderful community.
To view the PowerPoint presentation from the November 28th informational meeting, please click here. The Planning Board and Comprehensive Plan Committee will be meeting on Tuesday, December 5th in Saco City Hall to jointly discuss the revisions.
All are welcome to attend!
