Happy New Year!  We're excited to share the news that Gov. Jay Inslee has invited the Concert Choir to sing the National Anthem at the State of the State address next  Tuesday, January 12th in Olympia !  

This event will be attended by both branches of the legislature and televised live.  In addition, the students will get to meet with the Governor and our local legislators in the Governor's office. We need 3 more chaperones & a mini-van driver.  The Itinerary

The 10th Annual Pizza & Pep Band Night at Ballard is TONIGHT
 at the Varsity Boys Basketball Game vs. Ingraham!
M embers of the Middle School Bands that feed into BHS were invited to play with the Ballard High School Pep Band at this game.  Call time is 5:15 pm & rehearsal will begin
at 5:30 pm. The Game starts at 7:30 pm. Click here  for additional information.  BHS Band Students are required to be at at this game with their Black Band T-shirt.

The Goodwill truck will be at the Ballard HS parking lot on  Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 10am to 2pm
Please set aside your items for donations until then.  
Ballard Performing Arts  will receive a donation of at least $500 from Goodwill.  They will accept small furniture (no large furniture please), electronics, used cell phones, clothes, shoes, toys, kitchen items, etc.

Choir NYC Trip - The  third and  final $500 payment was due on Monday, Jan 4th. 
Please submit your payment now via check or online here with a credit card including a small processing fee.  Students who wish to apply fundraising dollars may contact Jen Witeck  to confirm the amount of funds available in their student account.  This total will include Chinook Book sales and Coffee, Candy and Direct Appeal funds.
Please note that January 4th  was also the last day to make any changes to a student's itinerary without financial penalty from the airlines.

Ticket Information for Carnegie Hall -  Audience seating for Friends and Family will be in the Parquet, First Tier and Second Tier in Stern Auditorium.  Tickets for the March 18th 2016 concert in Carnegie Hall are $90.00 each + a $6.00 per ticket service fee. Individual and small group ticket sales go through the Carnegie Hall Box Office either online here or in person or via credit card/phone at Carnegie Charge (212-247-7800, Mon-Sun, 8 AM-8 PM EST).
If attendees would like to order as part of a Group to save on the cost of the ticket and processing fees, please contact parent Karolyn Vickers by  Friday, January 15th at  goddagpkv@comcast.net   She has volunteered to coordinate the purchase of the $87 tickets. Tickets go on sale to the public 60 days prior to the date of the concert. 

Jazz Retreat -  January 8-10 at Camp Burton on Vachon Island -  The Bands will leave school at approximately 3pm on Friday and return at approximately 3pm on Sunday. Attached  here  is a tentative itinerary.  Reminder! Jazz I & II families  who have not paid or sent in paperwork for the Camp Burton retreat - please send in your check for $225 made out to BPA to cover the cost for your student before Wednesday. The UW Jazz Festival  is January 30, 2016.  Jazz Band 1 will be participating.  Specific Times TBA but plan on attending the entire day.

The Elliott Bay Region Concert Band Festival will be held during the school day on March 9th at Roosevelt High School.  Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and most percussionists will be attending.  This is an adjudicated performance and we will need approximately 12 chaperones.
Reminder!  Wind Ensemble Vancouver Trip down-payments of $200 are now past due.

Black Band t-shirts are the required uniform for all basketball games.  You will not be allowed to play with the band if you are not wearing your  band shirt and you will not receive credit towards your grade  without your shirt.

Reminder! The Tampa/LA final payments are due today, 1/5, for students & chaperones. Final payments are $250 for LA, and $400 for Tampa.

NW Region Strings Concert - Tuesday, February 2nd  Orchestra parents - we need 3-4 volunteers to help hand out programs and welcome our elementary and middle school string players between 5:15-5:45. Thursday, February 25th EBMEA Orchestra Festival Orchestra parents - we need 3 parent chaperones to join us for this all day Orchestra festival. Please email Ms Newell at  bcnewell@seattleschools.org  if you can help out.


As in previous years, we are offering local businesses a chance to support our Performing Arts department by purchasing an advertisement or sponsorship in the annual musical program. This year's production is  CHILDREN OF EDEN . Programs will be distributed at all performances, which are generally full houses. For additional

The Opening Night Gala will be on Thursday, March 3rd. The BHS Foundation will be hosting a Gala Event & Dinner before that nights performance.  More details to follow!
Solo/Ensemble Festival and Competition:   If your student is interested in participating in the Elliott Bay Region Solo and Ensemble festival, please talk to your teacher this week to let them know. Students should be thinking of what they would like to perform and if they would like to do a Solo or play as part of an Ensemble. Click here for additional information about the festival. The Paperwork for the festival is attached here for Solo ($18) and here for Ensemble ($28). Please make checks payable to Ballard Performing Arts. The paperwork is due January 8th AT THE VERY LATEST!  The festival is February 6, 2016 this year and will be held at SPU.
