After receiving many requests from residents and with the expectation of increased visitors in our ward in the near future with the growth of the Uptown Entertainment District, I want to give the opportunity and forum for Ward residents to decide on zoned residential parking for their area. Each area has been divided by their block club boundaries and will decide by voting if they will adapt zoned parking for their area. 

 

We will be hosting meetings until the end of July for each area to inform residents on the zone parking and information on how to vote. If you are concerned or want more information please attend the meeting for your area listed on the chart below. To get more information about your block club, click here. We will also be putting up fliers in the areas to let neighbors without web access know about these meetings.

 

You can vote at the meeting, by stopping by or calling our office at 773-878-4646 or completing an online survey (click here for survey) that will be up on our website until 9:00 AM on August 1, 2015. Full name and address is needed to register a vote. Addresses will be verified to ensure the correct votes are counted for each specific area.

OPEN OFFICE HOURS EVERY MONDAY

Ald Cappleman is available next Monday evening from 5pm - 7pm for Open Office hours. Come in with any questions or ideas to help make the 46th Ward better for everyone. 

 

SHOOTING IN SHERIDAN PARK

Late Wednesday evening, a 19-year-old man died after a drive-by shooting in Sheridan Park. The incident remains under investigation. Both Ald. Cappleman and Ald. Osterman met with the Mayor, the Police Superintendent, and area police commanders to address the shared violence taking place in Rogers Park, Edgewater, and Uptown. Both aldermen have asked for regularly assigned beat officers who walk in the area to get to know the area businesses and local community. Public meetings to discuss more public safety strategies will occur at a later date. 

 

CHARTER SCHOOL DAY OF ACTION CALLED OFF

The meeting scheduled for 6/22 at Uplift High School has been canceled.

 

MEALS FOR KIDS WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT

There is no need for any kid to go hungry this summer when school is out. Any kid or teen 18 and under can eat for free at designated summer meals sites across Chicago. For more information about a site near you, call 311.

 

JUNE IS NATIONAL HUNGER AWARENESS MONTH

In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month, Inspiration Corporation is collecting non-perishable food items throughout June during their regular business hours. Please consider bringing a few cans or boxes of food to their office. For more details, click here.

ICA GREENRISE HOSTING SUSTAINABILITY HUB DAY
When: Saturday, June 20 from 10am to 2pm
Where: ICA Building at 4750 N. Sheridan Rd
The Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) GreenRise is hosting a community hub day by launching hub events that will consist of 3-4 hours of workshops showcasing community assets, sharing knowledge and skills, and general opportunities for community members to interact around shared interests. PRIDE PARADE
When: Sunday, June 28 at Noon
Starting Location: Intersection of N. Broadway/W. Montrose
Both Ald. Cappleman and Tunney assembled a group of community stakeholders and the Police to recommend changes to this year's parade. These changes will include a more stringent public safety plan, zero tolerance for drinking on the public way and improvements to the implementation of this ban. Over the years, this parade has grown ten-fold, and the goal is to have both a celebratory and safe event.

PUBLIC SAFETY MEETINGS
The 46th Ward Office is teaming up with the Police to have a series of public safety meetings to address chronic crime. Your participation will help make our community safer for everyone.
