As you know, the Port of New Orleans is proposing to build a container terminal in Violet, LA. Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers must study the potential impacts of the terminal on people and the environment before permitting construction.
In 2021, Port NOLA submitted its permit application to the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a public notice, which officially starts the permit and review process. This process will take two to three years and will include many ways for residents and businesses to provide input. Information and plans related to the proposal are now available on the Corps' website. Initial public comments will be accepted until Feb. 28, 2022 (see Ref#: MVN-2021-00270-EG).
Please note that the terminal layout in the initial permit application is a working concept and is subject to change. This layout may change based on engineering needs, public input, and other factors as alternatives are considered and studied in the environmental review process.
