"Your Business is our Business"
LeAnna Lee Executive Director

I wanted to invite you to join Perquimans County Chamber of Commerce:
Your business is our business. We help promote you through our website, social media, networking events and eblast...
Mission

The mission of the Perquimans County Chamber of Commerce is to advocate, educate, and build relationships that enable our communities and members to prosper.

Vision

The vision of the Perquimans County Chamber of Commerce is to be the indispensable resource for Perquimans County businesses.

Chamber Organizational Values

The Perquimans County Chamber serves our members and community with integrity and pride, continuously seeking improvement as we strive to be the best. We are dedicated to the success of our members and use Chamber resources purposefully and efficiently.

Respect

We will treat each and every member with courtesy and respect, never forgetting that those individuals represent the base from which all Chamber operations grow. In short, we will not forget that companies become members because they desire to, not because they are required to.

Public Trust

We will not lose sight of the fact that we hold positions of public trust. Our members have placed their confidence and trust in us, and we will live up to that trust.

Teamwork

We will work cooperatively as a team, always remembering that service to our members is what counts – concern for recognition or organizational power simply gets in our way.

Initiative

We will take the initiative to anticipate problems and issues and recommend solutions for the Board’s consideration.

Resources

We will use the Chamber’s resources purposefully and efficiently, never forgetting that most of our resources come from the pockets and potential profits of our members.

RELATIONSHIPS

To Chamber Policy

Your status is that of an individual acting in a governance capacity. You have the right to exert your influence with the Board for approval of actions and policies, but your authority does not go beyond your vote. You have no authority as an individual to commit the Chamber to any action or policy.

To the Public

You are an official representative of the membership. You are also an unofficial representative of the entire community. You should defend the Chamber against criticism and take steps to remedy conditions that cause justified criticism.

To the Staff

Your responsibility for the Chamber staff is limited to that of advisor. The chief paid Executive Director is responsible for hiring, firing, and management functions of all staff members. Board members should not take issues directly to staff members, but instead discuss with Executive Director. If the issue cannot be resolved at that level, Executive Director will take the issue to the Executive Committee for discussion/resolution.

To Committee & Task Forces

You have a responsibility to keep informed about the activities of all committees and task forces because you may eventually be asked to study and act on their recommendations. You also have a responsibility to see that all committees and task forces operate within established structure and guidelines.

To the Board

You are a co-partner in the important work of the Board to improve the economic and civic life of the community through the Chamber. You have assumed a position of public trust. You should disassociate your personal interests from Chamber activities.

To the Program of Work

You must understand the relationship between the Board and the Chamber’s plan of action in order to reach established objectives. Remember, a chamber’s plan charts a future course of action, furnishes measurements for performance and serves as a challenge to members and citizens to meet their responsibilities to the community through the Chamber.

To the Budget

Financial support of the Chamber comes from fundraising projects and annual investments made voluntarily by the businesses and individuals. The Chamber operates on a budget approved by the Board. It is the responsibility of Chamber management to get maximum results from available funds and to operate within the approved budget.

What is a Chamber of Commerce?
A Chamber of is a form of business network, e.g., a local organization of businesses whose goal is to further the interests of businesses. Business owners in towns and cities form these local societies to advocate on behalf of the business community. The chamber of commerce is an organization of citizens who are investing their time and money in a community development program-working together to improve the economic, civic, and cultural wellbeing of the area. Local businesses are the members that elect a board of directors and/or executive council to set policy for the chambers. There are two primary functions of a chamber of commerce: first, it acts as a spokesman for the business and professional community and translates the group thinking of its members into action; secondly, it renders a specific product or services type that can be most effectively be beneficial by a community organization and to its members as a whole. How does it function? The Chamber’s mission is creating an environment in which businesses can prosper. The main function of a Chamber of Commerce is to promote interest in local business possibilities. The Chamber works for industrial and business development, which supports new residents with their revenues for our community. It provides educational opportunities and assists businesses with the latest marketing and promotional techniques. It works toward the increasing development of highways, recreational areas, new industries, and the expansion of existing industries; all of which increase the demand for services. The Chamber provides an expanding market for construction, real estate and insurance professionals by promoting business, and attracting new industries and residents. Potential customers are referred to members daily. The Chamber works continuously for the growth of the city, business expansion and population increase to insure the professional a prosperous place in which to make a living.
