Personal Hacking

In an increasingly digital age where people are spending more and more time online they are subsequently increasing their digital footprint and thus making themselves more vulnerable to a cyber attack. While the average person may not consider themselves the likely target of an attack, this false sense of security only makes them more vulnerable.

Social Hacking

The most common form of personal hacking takes places on social media outlets. In recent media the accounts of celebrities are commonly being hacked, where the attackers are posting private photos and documents. However, this hack can just as easily happen to you. Common platforms include Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat. The negative consequences of such an attack can range from attaining personal information to more targeted attacks where the individual is cyber bullied and the hacker aims to ruin the reputation of their victim.
Action Not Reaction

The consequences of being personally hacked can carry a vary. It can be minimal in that the hacker may share a funny anecdote to your followers or spam them with advertisements. But it can also go as far as sending out malware from your account, compromising the computers of your followers. The best stance to take against hackers is action, not reaction. Take measures to protect yourself by utilizing complex passwords, being aware of phishing emails, and be wary of downloads.
