LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE: Personal Mission Statements
by Daria Todor ACSW LCSW-C MAC
Do you know that asking yourself some deep questions every now and then can lead to a happier, healthier life? It`s true. But how often do any of us take the time to really look at the quality of our own lives deeply; I mean, really look long and hard and ask questions that can lead to our best lives? Many of us do ask questions but stop there. This article is designed to help you take the important next step -- developing a personal mission statement to guide your actions.
Writing a Personal Mission Statement
Somewhere around your office and organization`s social media is a statement that lists what it is all about. It is referred to as a Mission Statement. SMOHIT's mission, for instance, is "Minimizing occupational illnesses and injuries for sheet metal craftsmen." Mission statements are written to let everyone know the reason for being and serve as guides when life gets confusing. They are the stabilizing rudder in rough waters.
Individuals, too, can benefit from writing such statements. If you are stuck in your life, in pain, confused, unhappy -even happy but want to improve even more -it is helpful to write one of these periodically.
Here`s a link to a free mission statement template writer. I have used it many times and go back to it when in transition or am stuck with something. It hasn't changed very much but I do make adjustments. I recommend it to just about every client who is seeking clarification or needing to make a decision. If you have never done one, I highly recommend giving it a try ASAP. The act of writing one is a good starting point in reclaiming one's life when things are tough.
