Dear Friends:

We just celebrated a wonderful Purim here at the Etz Chaim. So many of you participated in meaningful ways to make the holiday such a success. With your help we were able to raise a significant amount of money for the needy here and in Israel. Now that the fun and games have passed, we must start thinking of the dreaded "P" word. Yes, Pesach is only a couple of weeks away and we must properly prepare.

The Torah tells us that we must remove all chametz from our possession on Passover. Aside from the physical cleaning and removal of chametz from homes, we traditionally appoint the Rabbi as an agent to sell all remaining chametz items to a Gentile for Passover. The Rabbi then purchases those items back on your behalf after Passover.

Below is a form for you to fill out, sign and return to me so that you can authorize me to act on your behalf in the sale of chametz. Please make sure to list all locations that you may own where chametz may be located so that they may be included in the sale.

This is a complicated and tedious holiday, but don't let that dampen the beautiful spirit of celebration with family and friends. I am available to answer any questions you may have regarding the laws and customs of the holiday. Please feel free to call me at 973-597-1655 or e-mail me at [email protected] as no matter is too trivial when it comes to Pesach.

Sarah, Rachelli, Eliana, Gila, Yocheved, Adina, Moshe Rabbeinu and I wish you all a Chag Kasher V'Sameach.

 Sincerely,
Rabbi Klibanoff
