PETS OF THE MONTH

Houdini

Introducing Houdini, when he was found in front of the Pet Center, he was drastically underweight. Now, after several weeks of care he’s gained weight, is more active, and his nervous personality was replaced by a happy, wholesome dog. Volunteers love Houdini for his carefree personality and kisses! He’s still learning how to walk on a leash and play with toys but he never stops surprising us with his resolve.

Dallas

Meet Dallas, the one-year-old Lab mix with a heart as big as Texas! This loveable pup is a bundle of energy and affection, always ready to embark on exciting adventures with his human companions. Whether it's a leisurely walk, running around outside or simply snuggling on the couch, Dallas is up for it all.

In a heartwarming tale of dedication, St. Johns County Animal Control Officers located and reunited 45 lost pets in 2023. Through their compassion and persistence, each pet was able to find their way back home, creating a series of joyful reunions that echoed the importance of these field officers’ crucial work in the community.

We are grateful and appreciative of their commitment to making a difference.

Volunteer Spotlight: Laurie Robinson

Laurie has been volunteering at the Pet Center since January 2023. She devotes her time to the shelter dogs and is always willing to help out when needed. Laurie has spent endless hours making sure all the shelter pets feel loved.

Laurie’s favorite thing about volunteering is spending time with the dogs and giving them a chance out of the shelter to run and play. She loves getting to know each of them and learning about their different personalities. The best part of volunteering for Laura is when the animals get adopted and getting to watch them drive away with their new forever family. When she is not volunteering, Laurie enjoys hiking and reading.

The Pet Center sends out a heartfelt THANK YOU

to all the wonderful citizens of St. Johns County for the generous donations we received throughout 2023. Your support has made a meaningful impact, contributing to positive changes and initiatives in our community. Your compassion and contributions have made a significant difference in the lives

of all our shelter pets.

We appreciate you!

Importance of Spay and Neutering Your Pet

  • Helps to control the homeless pet population in your community.
  • Female pets will live a longer healthier life. Spaying before she goes into heat offers the best protection from uterine infections and decreases the incidence of breast tumors.
  • Neutering your male pet prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems.
  • May help to prevent behavioral issues.
  • Unneutered dogs and cats are more likely to mark their territory by spraying strong-smelling urine all over the house. Spaying and neutering your pet is highly cost-effective.
  • The cost of your pet’s spay/neuter surgery is far less than the cost of having and caring for a litter.
