The purpose of the Social Justice Tread is to encourage participants to not only tread water as part of a tread-a-thon, but to become advocates for social change by taking action and bringing awareness to the racial injustices and historical impacts that contribute to drowning disparities and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) participation in aquatics, not only in the United States but throughout the world.
The International Water Safety Foundation is a non-profit organization raising drowning awareness while bringing basic swimming, water safety, and safe rescue skills to children. Their Mission Statement is "Striving to make a planet that’s 70% water, 100% water safe!”
75% of funds raised by a Tread-A-Thon™ go to your organization while the remaining 25% of the funds are donated to the International Water Safety Foundation and Diversity In Aquatics to help in their efforts of curving drowning and increasing equality. Teams also have the option to donate 100% of the proceeds.
