Work to Resume on Peterson Road

Work on Peterson Road is scheduled to resume on Monday, March 30th.

Initial work will include finishing the items located in the medians. In order to complete the work, the left lane on Peterson Road will be closed in each direction. At this time, it is anticipated the work remaining in the medians on Illinois Route 83 can be completed using daily lane closures and therefore lane reductions will not be necessary during non-working hours.

The widening of the Peterson Road corridor is moving forward. The first part of the project to widen Peterson Road to five lanes from US 45 to west of IL Route 83 is 80% complete. Construction to widen Peterson Road from IL Route 83 to Alleghany Road is expected to begin in the first half of 2015 and be complete by the end of 2016.

This year, the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) will have $137 million in road projects under construction making for another busy construction season! While about $60 million of that is carried over from projects that were started last year, there will be about $77 million in new projects, which are expected to be awarded during the first six months of 2015. The plan includes 24 projects, 11 of which contain non-motorized travel improvements, such as bike paths, or adding bike friendly lanes. More information

Hawley Road Project

As you know, the Village of Mundelein has partnered with the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) to complete a full reconstruction of Hawley Street, from Midlothian Road to Seymour Avenue and Hawley Court. The project will reconfigure the existing roadway to include a center turn lane as well as construct a multi-use path for pedestrian access. Water main and sanitary sewer will be replaced in conjunction with the road project. Storm sewer improvements are also proposed that will provide improved conveyance of storm water in the area.

Currently, the project is under final review by the Lake County Division of Transportation and tentatively scheduled for a May construction letting. Land acquisition is expected to be complete in mid-April. Construction on the project is expected to begin by early August 2015. However, residents may see preliminary utility relocation work begin as soon as early June. The project is anticipated to cover two construction seasons, with the utility work to be completed during the first phase of construction in 2015.

IDOT Road Projects

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has several big resurfacing projects in Lake County this summer.

One major project that will cause delays in our area is the resurfacing of IL Route 21 from Church Street (in Libertyville) to IL Route 60 (in Vernon Hills).  Work is expected to begin on Monday, April 6 with daily lane closures from 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The Village of Libertyville has also authorized intermittent nighttime construction work between the hours of 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. to help expedite completion of the project. Route 21 will also be resurfaced from IL Route 60 to Lake Cook Road.

Other IDOT projects in Lake County are listed below.  These projects are expected to start in the next few weeks and additional work may be necessary later in the year. When resurfacing projects occur on major roadways, motorists can expect delays. State routes fall under the jurisdiction of IDOT and all questions and comments regarding these projects should be submitted to IDOT.
