THIS WEEK'S TASTING FLIGHT:

Tuscan Treasures

Three top selections from our upcoming client trip to the famed vineyards of Tuscany!

This week, we’re paying homage to one of the world’s most iconic wine regions: Tuscany! Inspired by our upcoming client trip through this famed wine-producing mecca, we’re thrilled to bring a sampling of wines from properties we'll be visiting on our trip - without the time & expense of flying to Italy - you just have to drop in the Tasting Room!

Our $32 tasting flight features an all-red lineup of three exceptional wines from renowned Tuscan appellations and producers, each reflecting the region’s rich history and diverse terroirs:

PETROLO 'Torrione' Val d’Arno di Sopra DOC Rosso 2023:

  • A special sneak peek at our featured estate for next week's wine dinner! Petrolo’s flagship bottling, Torrione has long been one of Tuscany’s finest expressions of Sangiovese outside the Chianti Classico zone. Note: this is NOT a wine we'll feature at the dinner...

CASTELLO DI AMA 'Montebuoni' Chianti Classico Reserva 2020:

  • A benchmark Chianti Classico Riserva, marrying the estate’s precision winemaking with the bright cherry fruit, floral lift, and savory depth that define Gaiole’s high-elevation Sangiovese. Love the focus of the art installations at this cru-level Chianti producer!

LE RAGNAIE Brunello di Montalcino 2019:

  • This benchmark Brunello captures the elegance and lift of Montalcino’s highest vineyards, combining radiant red fruit and floral aromatics with finely etched structure and remarkable purity. Our trip features a meeting with owner/winemaker Ricardo Campinotti - considered the new guard of Montalcino and the one-to-watch.

Tuscany is synonymous with some of the world’s most celebrated wines, and this flight offers a journey through three of its most storied locations. So whether you're a longtime enthusiast or simply curious to explore these iconic regions, this flight offers a fantastic opportunity to broaden your knowledge and appreciation of Sangiovese and the famed Super Tuscan blends.

Join the fun starting tomorrow, and don’t miss the chance to savor these incredible wines while supplies last at our Tasting Room... Please read on for our flight hours, wine details, and the remaining tickets for next Friday's PETROLO Wine Dinner (now just 8 seats left).

Petrolo ‘Torrione’ Val d’Arno di Sopra DOC Rosso 2023

Tuscany, Italy

PURCHASE ONLINE HERE

$47 retail

Founded in the 1940s and elevated to critical acclaim under the Sanjust family, Petrolo has become one of Tuscany’s most respected estates, and Torrione stands as its flagship bottling -- an essential reference point for Sangiovese from the Val d’Arno di Sopra. This is easily our best Super Tuscan for the money.

Varietal: 80% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from organically farmed estate vineyards situated between 250–400 meters above sea level on predominantly galestro and alberese soils. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Aging takes place over 15 months in a combination of used French barriques, larger casks, and cement tanks, striking a careful balance between structure and transparency.

Tasting Notes: The 2023 Torrione is vibrant and finely structured, with layers of red cherry, plum skin, and wild strawberry interwoven with savory herbal notes, cedar, and spice. The palate is medium-bodied but deeply expressive, supported by fresh acidity and refined, chalky tannins. A long, graceful finish underscores the wine’s elegance and ageworthy balance.

Castello di Ama ‘Montebuoni’ Chianti Classico Riserva 2020

Tuscany, Italy

PURCHASE ONLINE HERE

$57 retail

Founded in the 1970s, Castello di Ama quickly rose to prominence as one of Chianti Classico’s most visionary estates, and Montebuoni represents a cornerstone in their range. An archetype of elegant, ageworthy Sangiovese from the heart of Gaiole. Without question, one of the more adored producers of Chianti Classico.

Varietal: The Sangiovese for Montebuoni is sourced from estate vineyards surrounding the hamlet of Ama, at elevations of 420–500 meters on classic galestro and limestone soils. The wine undergoes maceration for around 25 days to achieve fine tannic structure, followed by 12 months of aging in a mix of large oak casks and second-use barriques to emphasize purity and finesse over overt wood influence.

Tasting Notes: A beautifully composed Riserva, showing lifted aromas of red cherry, crushed flowers, and sweet herbs. The palate is medium-bodied but intense, with vivid acidity and polished tannins framing flavors of ripe berries, tobacco, and subtle spice. It finishes long and finely etched, combining classical Chianti typicity with the precision that defines Castello di Ama’s style.

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Tuscany, Italy

PURCHASE ONLINE HERE

$100 retail

Founded in 2003 by Riccardo and Jennifer Campinoti, Le Ragnaie has become one of Montalcino’s most respected estates, known for its high-elevation vineyards and classically styled wines. The estate Brunello is a benchmark bottling, blending fruit from parcels across the property to capture a pure and transparent expression of Sangiovese. This is label to watch if you're a real fan of classic Brunello, in small batch production, from a masterful winemaker.

Varietal: The Sangiovese fruit is sourced from organically farmed vineyards, including some of the highest sites in Montalcino, up to 600 meters above sea level. The wine is aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks, in keeping with traditional Brunello élevage, emphasizing refinement and site expression over new oak influence.

Tasting Notes: Striking for its lift and precision, offering aromas of red cherry, rose, wild herbs, and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied yet deeply nuanced, with vibrant acidity, fine tannins, and layered flavors of citrus-tinged red fruit, spice, and earth. Long, graceful, and classically structured, it’s a superb example of high-altitude Brunello built for both early appeal and long-term aging.
