Church-Wide Events
This Sunday - Find out what Jesus said is the one thing that distinguishes his followers from the rest of the cheering crowd. And learn how to take the truths that you read in the Bible and drill them deep into your heart and mind. Pastor Brian Flewelling will be sharing Part 3 of The Word of God Series with a message entitled "How to Use God's Word.."

BELONG: The Journey - Join us this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. as we focus on the topic of "Serve."
E astgate House of Prayer - All are welcome this Tuesday at 7 p.m. for  an Evening of Devotional Worship led by  Jordan and Miranda Zook and their team. T his prayer format is designed to provide an anointed atmosphere for meditating on the Word, lingering in God's presence, and listening to his voice. We will focus especially on God's trustworthy nature as the One who makes provision for all our needs. Childcare is provided through age 7.

Eastgate House of Prayer ls always looking for new people who are interested in becoming involved at EHOP - whether it be through serving on a worship team as a singer, musician, or prayer leader; on a prophetic or healing team as a prayer minister; or on our hospitality team. So, if you're looking for an opportunity to grow in your gift, we'd love to have you! Right now we are specifically looking for bass players, prayer ministers, and adult childcare workers (18 years or older; background check required). Training is provided. Community Blood Drive - Petra will be hosting a community blood drive on Friday, September 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the MPR lobby. Everyone who donates will receive an Oregon Dairy BOGO free ice cream cone or dish and a free blood donor T-shirt. A form of ID is required to donate. For more information, call 1-800-771-0059.

Episode 107: Who Decided What Could Be in the Bible? Christians believe that the Bible is a source of authority that governs our lives. But who approved the Scriptures, and what was that process like? If someone approved them, does that mean the Bible's authority is given by man and not by God? Regions A & C (New Holland East & West) Picnic in the Park - Join us for an afternoon of food and fellowship on Sunday, August 26, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the New Holland Park (at the Rotary Pavilion in front of the stage). Marriage Ministry
Online registration for the 2018 Marriage Beach Retreat from September 28-30 ends this Sunday ! There is still room for approximately 14 couples. Enjoy a great weekend with your spouse and others! Also hear Pastor Derrick and Jen Garber as they share their marriage journey; their transparency in learning to live grace-healed lives will inspire you! And don't miss the input from Ben and Marci Dodd as they teach from the book Fun Loving You: Enjoying Your Marriage in the Midst of the Grind , by Ted Cunningham. The cost is $285 per couple, with a $25 deposit at registration. Marriage Live - Atrium registration for this powerful marriage program through Cleansing Stream continues through Sunday, August 26 . Marriage Live's small-group study will take place on Sundays at 6 p.m. from September 23-November 4. Topics will include Hearing God's Voice, Living Covenant Together, Speaking Life Together, and Overcoming Together. During the full-day event on Saturday, November 3, you will bask in God's love and mercy, participate in worship, receive personalized prayer, and cover four dynamic topics for couples. The cost is $40 per couple for the small-group study and $99 for the event; some scholarship assistance is available. Petra Young Adults
Launch, The Wake - Join us on Thursday nights beginning next week at 7 p.m. in the Oasis for The Wake! The Wake is Petra's Young Adult Ministry for all young adults from post-high school to age 24. You can expect worship teaching, community, fun, and purpose! See you there!

Young Adult Mission Trip - Be a part of the team for our annual week of work and fun at Fair Haven Camps in the beautiful state of Maine. You'll have a blast while serving the Lord from September 16-22. This trip is for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24, single or married. The cost to participate is $100 per person. All students in grades 5-12 are invited to Sunday Funday at Petra on August 26 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Come for a pizza lunch, games, water activities, and cool prizes! It's for EVERYONE, whether you're currently involved or wanting to plug in.

Parents - Once again we will be holding a Parent Meeting during Sunday Funday to go over important information you'll need to know about the upcoming year in Student Ministries. The meeting will be in the Oasis from 12:30-1 p.m. on August 26. We would love for all parents to attend!
The 2018 High School Fall Retreat is set for the weekend of September 7-9 at Refreshing Mountain! Online registration is currently open. Please register before August 22. A High School Ministry Parental Consent and Liability Release Form is required for every student attending the retreat. Students can sign up for ziplining at the time of registration.
Kingdom Kids
2018-19 Classes - This Sunday and on August 26, Pre-K classes will have a "sneak peek" at the Summit and their new Kindergarten room! Step-Up Day , then, is on September 2. This is the Sunday when all Early Childhood and Elementary children move up to their new classes! 

Fourth Grade Graduation will take place on Sunday, August 26, as the children transition from Kingdom Kids to EDGE 56. Parents of fourth graders are welcome to join their children in the Summit that day from approximately 9 to 9:45 or 11 to 11:45 a.m. The fourth graders will then head to the fifth grade room to meet their EDGE 56 leaders.

We are gearing up for a new year in Kingdom Kids! This September we are starting a new curriculum, and our team is excited about the new ways we can teach our kids about Jesus and following him! This year we are going to Dig Into Discipleship! Want to join the fun? We currently need around 40 people (31 for Elementary; 8 for Early Childhood) to cover openings in our kids' classes. Local Outreach
Can You Help? We still need 6 to 8 volunteers to work in the concession stand at the Garden Spot football game next Friday, August 24, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., or whenever you can. English as a Second Language  - This fall again Petra will be offering free ESL classes as an outreach to the community. Classes start on Wednesday, September 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. If you are aware of a person or family who could benefit from these classes, please extend an invitation to them. Global Missions
Mission Prayer Focus - Andrea Beiler serves as a Petra missionary on staff at the YWAM Redding base in California. Praise God that the YWAM houses were spared from the recent wildfires in California, although others in the area suffered damage. Pray for God’s anointing of wisdom as she helps to disciple and equip students for ministry outreaches to various countries around the world, and as she helps to lead teams on outreach. Pray also for release of provision of the remaining monthly financial support that she needs for this mission assignment.

Fundraiser Meal - The meatball sub fundraiser meal for the team serving with ZOE International - which that had been promoted for Sunday, August 26 - has been postponed to a later date, to be determined.
Community Events
A Grandparenting Matters Conference will take place at Calvary Church on Saturday, October 13, beginning at 8 a.m. Topics include The Amazing Influence of a Grandparent, Reaching the Heart of Your Grandchild, The 8 Best Practices of Christian Grandparents, and others.
