Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine now FDA approved

Applies to: Mercy Care Complete Care, Mercy Care DD, Mercy Care RBHA, Mercy Care Long Term Care, Mercy DCS-CHP and Mercy Care Advantage

On August 23, 2021, the FDA approved the first COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech. It is being marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older.

The vaccine is also available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals. Mercy Care encourages children 12 through 15 years of age to get their vaccine, with parental consent.

We would like to include a few references for you that include further details regarding this FDA approved vaccine.

It is anticipated that FDA approval will lessen vaccine hesitancy, increase overall vaccine rates, and help to alleviate the further spread of this pandemic.
