Pharmacist Exam Application Information for New Graduates - UPDATED

This email provides instructions and information on the requirements and process to apply for a pharmacist license in the State of Ohio. The full guidance is available on the Board’s website here.

 

You are also encouraged to check the status of your Pharmacy Intern license by visiting www.elicense.ohio.gov. Graduates with an Active intern license will still be permitted to work under that license until their pharmacist license is granted. 

UPDATE: Ohio Pharmacy Law Course

Graduates who opt to take the Uniform Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (UMPJE) are required to complete the Board's on-demand Ohio Pharmacy Law Course prior to receiving their license to practice pharmacy in the state of Ohio. The course will be available beginning Monday, June 1st. All graduates from Ohio schools of pharmacy and applicants with a Pharmacist by Examination application submitted to the Board will be given access to the online course. Specific instructions and access credentials will be emailed to each graduate or intern to the email address they have associated with their intern license or pharmacist application.

Requirements for an Ohio Pharmacist License by Examination

All applicants from an Ohio school of pharmacy who graduate with a PharmD degree must complete the following requirements:

 

  • Complete BCI and FBI criminal records checks with results submitted directly to the Board of Pharmacy.
  • Submit an application and fee to the Board via eLicense Ohio.
  • Successfully complete the required examinations:
  1. NAPLEX – either with Ohio as primary jurisdiction or as a score transfer
  2. MPJE – one of the following jurisprudence exams will be accepted for 2026 graduates:

a. Ohio MPJE

b. Uniform MPJE (UMPJE)

  • Complete a no-cost, on-demand pharmacy law and rule review course (only applicable for applicants who complete the UMPJE).

 

The guidance document contains relevant information regarding the application and fee requirements to both the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) that administer the examinations. 

Uniform Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (UMPJE)

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has developed a new jurisprudence exam – the Uniform Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam or UMPJE. The UMPJE will be available for the 2026 graduating class. The Ohio Board of Pharmacy has adopted the UMPJE as an exam that meets the licensure requirements for a pharmacist by examination (OAC 4729:1-2-01).

NABP's 2026 NAPLEX/MPJE Candidate Application Bulletin

NABP has updated their NAPLEX/MPJE Candidate Application Bulletin with necessary information and resources to apply for and complete the required information. The bulletin contains information related to pre-examination test opportunities, armed forces discounts, requesting ADA testing accommodations, requirements and procedures for taking the exams, examination results, and much more.
