The short workweek has rewarded us with a gradual reopening of DC. We encourage everyone to check out the links contained througho this eblast to learn more about Reopening and guidelines for living and working in Phase 1.

This members only meeting will be held online and will include an update on neighborhood news, voting for 2020-2021 Officers and open positions on the DCCA Board and our featured presenter, Councilmember and Chair of the Committee on Transportation and the Environment, Mary Cheh who will also be available for a Q&A with members following her presentation.

DCCA Continues to Push for Action on Encampments
DCCA recently weighed in with the DC government concerning the impact of the public health crisis on the homeless and the proliferation of encampments in the city. In mid-May we published the initial response from DHS and are now posting their recent follow up here.

We will update you as we receive additional information from the city.
District Ends Stay-At-Home Order
The DC Government continues to update its COVID-19 website with news releases, data on testing, hospital capacity in the District and other information. Visit coronavirus.dc.gov .

  • Based on health metrics, the District's Stay-At-Home Order was lifted today and the city will enter Phase One of Reopening. The Mayor's Office reminds:

  • The Public Health Emergency is still in effect and gatherings of more than 10 people is still prohibited.

  • Individuals must continue to maintain a distance of at least six (6) feet from persons not in their household.

  • Wearing a mask or face covering is one tool to protect an individual’s own health and the health of others, but it does not replace social distancing.

  • Details on what will re-open during Phase One and guidance for the operation of non-essential business has been posted on the DC website.

Early Voting Locations Are Open
In light of the spread of COVID-19, 20 vote centers will open throughout the District beginning May 22, 2020, and will remain open through June 2, 2020. Social distancing measures will be enforced at all vote centers.

All locations will open from 8:30am until 7pm. On Election Day, all vote centers will open from 7am until 8pm. The usual 144 precincts will NOT open on Election Day.

For the June 16, 2020 Ward 2 Special Election, vote centers will open beginning Friday, June 12 and will remain open through Election Day. Social distancing measures will be enforced at all vote centers.

  • Primary Election is Tuesday, June 2, 2020
  • Special Election for Ward 2 is Tuesday, June 16, 2020
  • General Election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020
Community Meeting: DC Middle School Feasibility Study

DC Public Schools will hold a community meeting online to discuss the Middle School Facility Feasibility Study -- Center City Middle School.

DCPS will use Microsoft Teams to host the meeting and recommends you download the application in advance of the start time. They will also make a dial in available for those who need it and will compile the questions and answer on the website after the meeting.

Phase One Teletownhall for Outdoor Dining
At 3:00 today , the Bowser Administration will be hosting a teletown hall for restaurants.

In addition to takeout, delivery, and grab and go, restaurants that already have outdoor seating can begin using that space. Restaurants must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • All outdoor dining customers must be seated, and patrons must place orders and be served while sitting at tables.
  • All tables must be at least six feet apart.
  • No more than six people seated at a table.

Workshop on How to Preserve Your Personal Archives
This afternoon the DC Library is hosting a workshop to help you preserve your personal archives at home.

Join the library, along with the Veteran’s History Project, on Friday, May 29 at 2 p.m . for a virtual Memory Lab workshop. Topics will include care of photographs and personal papers, inventory of your audio-visual archive, use of personal devices for digitization and research and preparation practices.
