Downtown Crossing Phase 2 (Orange Street) is approaching completion.
Over the next few weeks, the final work required to open the new Orange Street intersection will occur. This work includes paving and lane striping, both of which cannot occur when it is raining.
The paving is scheduled to occur overnight this week (the week of August 30); the new Orange Street intersection is scheduled to open on September 9th. However, please note that these dates may fluctuate because this work is weather dependent.
We will keep you informed of changes in schedule that may change the September 9th opening date of the new intersection.
As this work is occurring over the next two weeks to three weeks, the existing Phase 2 traffic patterns will remain in place until the new intersection opens for public use. Expect various single lane closures, listed in more detail below.
When Phase 2 work is complete and the intersection is open, the driving pattern will be in its final condition, as shown in the rendering immediately below this section.
Throughout the two-week period of Monday, August 30 and Friday, September 10, 2021 various lane closures may occur on the following roads to accommodate construction:
Inbound & Outbound Service Drives: single lane closures on the roads that provide access to parking under 100 College Street and go on to provide access to the Air Rights Garage.
State Street & Union Avenue at North Frontage Road: single lane closures near the intersection of Water Street.
South Frontage Road: single lane closures may occur on SFR between York Street and South Orange Street.
Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard: single lane closures between Church Street and Orange Street.
Downtown Crossing-related work for the two-week of period of Monday, August 30 through Friday, September 10, 2021 is scheduled to occur during both daytime work hours.
Daytime work hours are weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Nighttime work hours are between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Nighttime work will be limited to paving and lane striping for Phase 2 and will occur on South Frontage Road, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, Boulevard, Orange Street, and South Orange Street.
