The people of Haiti have recently suffered numerous casualties of life and the destruction of homes and businesses after the most recent earthquake that registered at a 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale.
In this “CALL TO ACTION” we are asking all brothers that have the ability to make a tax-deductible donation to support the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Haiti Relief efforts. In the coming months Bro. Malwan Johnson, the International Director of Social Action and his team will work to establish a new International Disaster Preparedness Committee. Pending General Board approval, this committee will be the go-to group to help support disaster efforts and to educate our members on disaster preparedness. It is critical as a brotherhood that is “Empowering Generations of Men to BELIEVE in Advocacy, Community Service, and Engagement” that we continue to do our part.
In the immediate, our Social Action team has begun contacting National Emergency Agencies to initiate conversations with regards to emergency response and recovery efforts in Haiti and other areas that have been affected by hurricanes and tropical storms. The committee intends to partner with organizations who are already taking part in this work to help strengthen efforts with identifying and resourcing immediate unmet needs. The Social Action Team has already reached out to the following organizations as possible groups that we can help support: Haiti Outreach, Georgia Haitian/ American Chamber of Commerce, UNICEF, FONKOZE, and ODEP Port Margot.
