All Welcome!
From the excitement of seeing something wonderful, to the examination of both the subject and his feelings towards it, to the making of photographic and printing choices, Phil explores and experiments. Through photography he explores the outer world, his inner world, and finally the responses of other people to his work. Photography requires artistic vision and technical mastery, and they appeal to both his intuition and to his intellect. Phil Straus loves the problem-solving that follows from the question, "How can I best show this image?"
Phil Straus photographed with a 4X5 view camera for 25 years. Currently, he is shooting and printing all digitally. He studied with Bruce Barnbaum, Don Kirby, and Stu Levy. His current photographic interests include portraits and abstractions from the world around him. He holds an undergraduate degree in psychology (Harvard '73), and a graduate degree in engineering (University of Pennsylvania '78). He grew up in Larchmont, and he has lived in the Philadelphia area since 1975. Mr. Straus may be contacted through his website www.strausphoto.com, or by email at phil@strausphoto.com.
