Dear TTN Members and Friends,

I hope you are enjoying Summer 2016 and a more relaxed schedule with family and friends. This newsletter aims to get you primed for the Fall season and to inspire you to sign up for our growing list of TTN events and activities.  A few highlights:

  • Save the Date for our first TTN Membership Celebration on Wednesday November 9th at 6pm in Center City.  A fun, informative forum designed to recognize all our Members and what you do to contribute to TTN PHL's success.  See article below.

  • Sign up for a special TTN program on "Successful Aging" on Friday October 21, presented by Dr. Zvi Gellis, UPenn Professor and Director of the Penn Center for Mental Health and Aging.  See details below.
On August 24th, your Steering Committee will hold a retreat to fine-tune our 2017 priorities and strategic plans.  If you have new ideas, suggestions and feedback, please send them to me so we can incorporate your input. Enjoy the rest of your Summer and look forward to seeing you in the Fall.

Warm regards,

Fatima Class
Celebrate Your TTN Membership at our First Annual Meeting
Save the Date:  Wednesday November 9 at 6PM for our Chapter's First Annual Meeting!

Show off what TTN means to you. Are you in a SIG? In a Peer Group? Love those Foodie dinners? Do volunteering? Attend events? Part of the Caring Collaborative? See why you, and our chapter's other wonderful and diverse women, make us so successful.   It takes a village to build the Philadelphia Chapter of TTN. Come celebrate with your village!

Find out who we are..... what we do...... and what we stand for. Where have we traveled this year? How many grandchildren do we have collectively? What do we do for work and play? Hear the answers to these and other questions as we describe the profile of our Philadelphia chapter members.

Wine and hors d'ouevres to follow. It's a TTN party!

Please Save the Date!   We'll let you know when you can start officially registering for the event on our website!  Invite your peer TTN Members to attend with you.

Please Update your Member Profile, esp. your street address if you've moved since you joined TTN, to receive future publicity. See the last article below for details on how to do this.
Summer Orientation for the Caring Collaborative on August 4

The Caring Collaborative, a service provided to members of our chapter, is based on the premise that most of us are determined to remain independent as we age. The goal of the Caring Collaborative is to create a supportive safety net to preserve and promote healthy independence by helping each other in times of short-term health needs or other personal crises.

In order to participate in the Caring Collaborative you must be a TTN member and attend an Orientation. The orientation includes:
  • Information about the two Caring Collaborative programs:  Member Information Exchange (MIX) and the Service Corps
  • How your Caring Collaborative requests will work
  • Discussion about confidentiality of shared information
  • Video testimonial of a Caring Collaborative member
  • Enrollment
Click Here to register for the Thursday, August 4th Orientation.

Time:     7:00 - 9:00 PM
Location: 1919 Chestnut Street
Contact: Donna Root
Email:   [email protected]

If you cannot attend this Orientation, check the Philadelphia Chapter Events Calendar for additional dates.

SIG Corner:  Prepare To Add More SIGs In Your Life

Summertime, and the living is easy.  But Fall is right around the corner.  Those trips to the Shore and around the world will be less frequent and you may want more SIGs in your life!  Please check out these 3 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) now forming:

1.  Writer's Support Group:  if you are trying to author a book, but need encouragement, why not band together with a group of fellow TTN'ers?  This group will meet to write and discuss common roadblocks to writing, as well as the practical aspects of publishing, distribution, etc.

2.  Night-Time Book Club:  If you are still working during the day or just a night owl, consider the Night-Time book club!  Book clubs are the SIGs with the most attendance.  We have 8 of them already!  If you aren't in one, or want to add one to your repertoire, consider this.  The group will decide the details:  when and where to meet, what to read, etc.

3.  Suburban Walking/Hiking:  I know its been hot, but Fall is just around the corner and crisp weather is meant for hiking!  If you would like to "take a hike" in a supportive environment, consider this SIG.

And - have you considered the Vegan Social Club?  This SIG meets monthly to discuss the Vegan lifestyle as well as recipes, local restaurants that serve Vegan food, etc.  You don't have to be a Vegan to belong.  If you are considering eating more plants, check it out.  SIG lead information is on the web page.

Many of the SIGs on the web page are open to new members.  Now is the time to think about what you want your Fall to look like!

Click here to access SIG webpage.
Volunteer Opportunities at Manna

Join a group of TTN members and friends for a hands-on volunteer day at Manna, a non-profit organization that cooks and delivers meals to neighbors who are battling life-threatening illnesses.

Click on highlighted links below to sign up for an upcoming session.   All sessions held at 2323 Ranstead Street, Philadelphia.

Vocalists Catherine Russell, Brianna Thomas and Charenee Wade channel the liberated spirits and pioneering vocalizations of four 1920s blues divas: Bessie Smith (the "Empress of the Blues"); Mamie Smith (the "Queen of the Blues"); Ma Rainey (the "Mother of the Blues"); and legendary stage and screen icon, Ethel Waters.

Backed by a seven-piece band, the ladies demonstrate the ageless relevance of this important genre in American music, tackling love's follies and stompin' the blues away.
