January 2016
Catherine           Fatima Radbill               Class
Welcome to a new year filled with exciting programming, inspiring discoveries, new connections and Transitions!   As 2016 begins, we highlight the end of the two-year term of Catherine Radbill, PHL Chapter Chair.  She is handing the Chair over to Fatima Class, current Vice-Chair, at the end of January.

Throughout her tenure, Catherine brought her unique strengths and skills to the role and is greatly appreciated for implementing strategy and planning processes and strengthening cross-team collaboration to ensure the success of our chapter.  Fatima, the Steering Committee, all Members and extended community thank Catherine for setting a clear
direction and laying a strong foundation to build upon as we move forward.

We wish Catherine great success in her future endeavors and hope to see her at TTN events as a member and friend.  Congratulations to Fatima as our next Philadelphia Chapter Chair!   How lucky we are to have The Transition Network in our lives!

See the tribute in the TTN National Newsletter from Susan Collins, TTN Executive Director.
TTN PHL Launches a New Service: The Caring Collaborative!
The Caring Collaborative (CC) seeks to create a supportive safety net to preserve and promote our healthy independence by helping each other in times of short-term health needs** or other personal crises. Though we may have family and friends, we either cannot or do not wish to rely solely on their help.

There are two primary services offered by The Caring Collaborative in PHL.

Service Corps:
  • Ability to ask for and receive help when you need it, and/or provide help to another.
  • CC members make a commitment to each other to provide mutual assistance.
  • Members are free to choose the kind of assistance they are willing to provide.
  • Sample services include attendance at medical appointments, providing meals, assistance with household chores.
Member Information Exchange or MIX:
  • Encourages members to seek and share resources and information related to medical conditions and health providers.
  • Are you newly diagnosed and have a million questions?
  • Do you need a procedure and want to know, on a patient level, what to expect?
  • Are you looking for a specialist that is highly recommended by other Caring Collaborative members?
In order to share information or request help, you must be a member of the CC.   There are two requirements: Current TTN membership and attendance at an Orientation Meeting (date to be announced). There is no additional cost to belong.

If you would like to be part of the Philadelphia Chapter Caring Collaborative, or would like more information, please contact:  phillycaringcollaborative@gmail.com

Come Celebrate TTN PHL's 7th Birthday!
Our birthday celebration on March 23 at Estia Restaurant is exciting!  You had so many wonderful suggestions to make this event the best ever and we listened!

Dinner will be sit-down, served by Estia Restaurant's waitstaff.  Afterwards, we will be entertained by George Sinkler, a well known pianist in the Delaware Valley with a wide range of musical styles. George does Broadway, Jazz, Oldies, Sing-along, Rock and Pop. He has been called "The Man of 5000 songs".  You can be sure he will play many of your favorites and maybe even get you to break out and sing-along.

This is an event not to be missed.  Celebrate our growth as a Chapter, enjoy a delightful social evening reconnecting with your TTN friends and meet new ones!  Bring some guests along too!

Get FIT with Walkers and Joggers SIGs
The New Year encourages us to re-evaluate and increase our fitness goals.  If you're looking to get fit in 2016, how about joining one of the three Special Interest Groups (SIGs) for Walkers and Joggers

Walk and Talk SIG:    First Monday & Third Thursday /month
We walk for two or three miles at a fairly rapid pace, but not so fast that we can't talk.  Afterwards, we stop for coffee or a late breakfast.  Our walking places vary since our members live in both the city and the suburbs. We meet twice a month and members are welcome to join in on either or both dates.

Schulykill Walkers SIG:    Every Friday:  9:00 AM
This newly formed SIG will walk the Schulykill Trail "energetically" every Friday at 9 am from the Locust Street entrance.  You can also join the walk at 9:15 by the Waterworks.  Coffee afterwards will be an option.

Jogging Josies SIG:    Time/Day Forming
Finally - if you are ready to step it up, we are trying to start a jogging group.  If you are a jogger and would like to share a run with other TTN'ers, this group is for you!  Stay in shape and share some pleasant company.

TTN Giving Circle Introduction & Reception on the Main Line
The Philadelphia Chapter's Giving Circle is unique within TTN and has received accolades from The Philadelphia Foundation for the impact our donations had on past grant recipients.

On Wednesday, January 20th, the Giving Circle will hold its first event on the Main Line with a wine and cheese reception in Bala Cynwyd. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Giving Circle and the difference our pooled dollars make in the lives of women and children in the Philadelphia area.

The program includes:
  • A presentation by Jane Eleey, Executive Director of Penn's Village - Health Pals, our 2015 GC grantee
  • discussion on how you can become involved
  • A video highlighting our past grant recipients
  • Insights and testimonials from long-time Giving Circle Members
The Reception is free, followed by an optional buffet dinner ($25).
